I don't know/remember if this has been discussed, but I was curious. Do you think of Buffy as sci-fi or fantasy? See if you can choose one or the other. But if you have say both, then so be it. :)

Mostly fantasy.

Some episodes lean to sci fi(ie Season 4)

I really think Joss created his own gerne for all his shows.

I'd say fantasy too. I don't think Buffy ventures too far into sci-fi land really.

For sci-fi I tend to think of space shows (is that wrong?!) so Firefly and Enterprise I would think of as sci-fi, but Buffy and Angel I would think of as fantasy.

Book: “A duel?”
Wash: “With swords?”
Simon: “The Captain's a good fighter, he must know how to handle a sword?”
Zoe: “I think he knows which end to hold.”

neither. both. it's a Drama/Fantasy/Horror/Sci-Fi/Comedy/Action show.
so, in other words, much like Firefly or Angel it mixes several Genres.
