So I just got a copy of the disc Mad Brilliant from Ghost of the Robot, which is James Marster's band.

I have to say that I am a HUGE buffy fan, and I try to pick novelties up, and see movies to support the actors... I even went to see Darkness Falls.

However, man does this disc leave something to be desired. I mean ... it's not BAD. It's just on the down-side of mediocre. The thing is though, it sounds like it could have been much better if it were better produced. I don't know if it will grow on me or not. I'm a musician and kind of a hard critic at first, and I did only give it the one listen through. We shall see.

Check it out for yourselves:

imho, the best music is the kind that grows on you. Most of the music that you like on first playing, gets boring after a few times. So play it a couple more times and let us know what you think then

Yeah, I have some Ghost of the robot on CD too. My reaction was pretty much the same. It's catchy and I get singing with the music, but it's not THAT good, you know? Though, I've only heard the live versions, so who knows.

Hmmm, maybe that's why he acts to pay the bills?

So - you know I've been listening to the cd more ... and it's growing on me.

I still don't think its the greatest things since sliced bread... but there are a couple of songs which I really like and that constantly get stuck in my head.

I simply wish it had been better produced - this band has some potential - I'll be waiting for their next album.

I saw them play last month, and some of their newer songs not on the album are much better. That said, they left a lot to be desired. The band itself is actually pretty tight. Sadly, I think the inclusion of James Marsters to the band is a double-edged sword; while he certainly is the draw bringing in the crowds, his voice leaves a lot to be desired and drags down the rest of the band.

That said, James did say he was sick that day, so that could be why his voice was lacking. The musicians, though, are quite good live.

I just ordered the Mad Brilliant CD yesterday (before I read this thread!) and now I'm worried!

I haven't heard any Ghost of the Robot stuff yet and I only ordered it because I loved James singing in Once More, With Feeling.

Did I just make a huge mistake?!

Nah, can't be!

Book: “A duel?”
Wash: “With swords?”
Simon: “The Captain's a good fighter, he must know how to handle a sword?”
Zoe: “I think he knows which end to hold.”

No, I mean it's not bad. I'd originally heard the live version stuff and that was a little weird. The David Letterman song is really good, at least I think so. I also like Dangerous.

so i agree with what a lot of people are saying about the cd not being well enough produced. i think the band has so much potential for better things. and saying that the album grows on u is completely true. everytime i listen to it it gets better and better. but i most certainly do not agree with what people said about james marsters not being a good singer. i really like his kind of voice. but thats just my opinion.

I bought "Darkness Falls" for Emma Caulfield. It was only $5, so I figured, "why not?" It's pretty crappy. The two good things about it are Emma and the final confrontation sequence. And I suppose it does have a few semi-clever parts.

Oh, and I watched the TV movie "Beverly Hills Family Robinson" for SMG. It was okay. Pretty much exactly what you'd expect.

I haven't listened to GotR at all, so I can't comment on them, but I do love "Rest in Peace."

I like it too! It's rough and sexy!

My CD arrived last month and I have been playing it virtually non-stop ever since!

I love all the songs, but my faves are "Vehicles Shock Me," "Dangerous" and "Call 911."
