I just realized that I put the wrong name up for last night's episode... sorry for the confusion...

Did you all see Buffy last night? If you haven't seen it and don't like spoilers.... don't read this....

...

...

...

...

When the big demon guy rose up in LA on the last Angel, I was sure that it was connected somehow to the big brewin evil in Sunnydale... But as of last night... I'm not so sure. That guy that rose out of the ground didn't look anything like the demon in LA... This guy looked more like Nosferatu.

But, it's official.... the SunnyD evil is "The First", the big scary evil that tried to convince Angel to kill himself back in Season 3. It seemed pretty easily defeated last time... Just some encouraging words from Buffy and a bit of snow (sent by the powers that be?). And The First seemed scarier last time, although it wasn't corporeal before. I wonder how this will be defeated. Especially now that the watchers council has been destroyed. I wonder if Giles will be the only watcher left alive? although, I suppose technically we don't even know if he IS alive, since the last thing we saw was an axe on the fast track to his head.

This was such a great episode... in the beginning, I was laughing my butt off, and by the end, I was staring open-mouthed at the screen in shock. I loved Andrew (Tucker's Brother) in this episode. The whole scene in the alley with Willow was killin me.

Andrew: I'm good now. I do good things.
Willow: Then why were in the butcher's getting a bunch of pigs blood?
Andrew: I am bad. I'm bad, I'm evil.

...

Willow: I'm talking; don't interrupt me, insignificant man! I am Willow. I am Death. if you dare defy me, I will call down my fury, exact fresh vengeance, and make your worst fears come true. OK?

hehe. good times. I loved the whole good cop/bad cop thing Anya and Xander were doing. There seemed to me like some old time sparkage going on in the hallway.

Dawn sure kicked butt. The training seems to be worth it. Maybe they are grooming her for Slayerness. And maybe they're grooming Willow for Watcherness... she did get knocked out in about 2 seconds flat!

I'm bummed that Principal Wood seems to be in league with the First. I really like him, I was hoping he would be good. I'm still hoping that it's a brain washing thing like he did with Spike & Andrew.

So... what did you guys think?

I fell in love with a beautiful vampire girl down in México, now we're trying to make a go of it on the straight and narrow and put our lives back together here in Sunnydale.

Or the Master. Much like the Master was an earlier version of the evolution. It's my understanding that the make-up crew has sketches of different stages of vampire development.

The credits refered to it as "Uber Vampire". Maybe it's the first vamp?

I note that it was played by Cameron Toy, who also was one of the Gentlemen and played Gnarl, the flesh eating demon who tried to make Willow a buffet this season.

All Buffy did was defeat its harbingers.

It's not corporeal now either. Andrew passes his hand through it.

As for it being scarier last time, perhaps familiarity really does breed contempt. The more we see of it, the less mysterious it becomes, which weakens the fear response. For me, the First-as-Warren form seems to have the creepiest presence.

That was neat. I wish the explosion effect had been better though. With all the straight-on shots of Travors, I was expecting him to be killed from behind--possibly by the blond watcher who seemed to be acting kind of funny in that scene.

That was great to see. I like battle-ready Dawn much better.

A great reminder of just how much she's relied on magick, and how much her natural fighting skills have suffered as a result.

Maybe he's not in league. Maybe his function is to keep the hellmouth events from drawing attention? (Much like Snyder in Seasons 1-3.) Or he could have an alternate agenda, unconnected to the First.

I liked all the Principal Wood stuff. The scene with the two students was great. The scene with Dawn explaining why Buffy wasn't coming in to work was also funny (especially Wodd's reactions).

The calm manner with which he addressed the Jonathan situation nice and a little creepy.

I wasn't as big a fan of the Willow/Andrew alley scene. It didn't seem up to par with Willow's usual dialogue. I understand that it was supposed to be a little forced, ike she was trying to be menacing without feeling menacing, but I think it was too forced. It needed a little more confidence. It was also missing the 180 at the end that speeches like that usually have (q.v. the Willow/Riley talk in 3rd where she gives him advice on talking to Buffy). It sounded like they were going for it, but it came off as being too much like the rest of the speech.

The Andrew vs. Babe scene was funny. It was a nice light moment to ease the pressure. We could have used more of that combination last season (and I'm a fan of last season).

Also, when they show Andrew in the black coat, and the first thing we is that his pants don't fit (the inseam was way too long). That was a nice touch.

I thought that episode was great! It really had me sitting on the edge of my seat (as had the one before and before ...). Buffy this season rocks!

Before this season started, I was like: Well, if they cancel Buffy after this show, I can live with it, it does not seem fresh anymore... But now? I think it has totally shifted gears and redefined itself.

But can anybody tell me when we will see new episodes? The next two weeks are only reruns... I don't want to miss anything - please help!

You might be a geek among geeks if:

Kind of a funny off topic thing... many of the Tuesday night Buffy-watchin' crowd that I hang out with are computer-geeky types. One of my friends took the cake as the geekiest of all of us during this episode.

When Willow said "Xander's installing the new windows, and he keeps giving lectures on proper tool maintenance. Tool talk—not my thing. ", my friend said "When did Willow stop being the computer girl? Just because she's a witch now..." We all looked at him confused, where had this comment come from? We said that she was still computer girl... Cassie episode... website, poetry, Doogie Howser fanfic... He said "Then why is Xander installing Windows?" We were all quiet for a moment, then I said ... "Uh, I think she meant big square panes of glass more than the operating system. besides, Will is a Mac girl..."

Yeah, it's sad. We're geeks. (my Tuesday crowd, not a blanket "Buffy Fan" statement )

______________
Xander: What're you doing back in town?
Andrew: You'll get nothing out of me, carpenter.
