Well I got in late to the theater and didn't seen any privews (came in around the dolphin song).

As far as the movie itself went, I really really didn't like the movie at all. I though it was dreadful, and nothing like the book since I enjoyed reading the book, and wanted to die druing the movie.

does the movie have the bit where Arthur says

I seem to be having terrible difficulty with my lifestyle

cause that, the whale and the cops at the end seemed to be the best fit for a movie version

I thought the movie was ok. I think I would have rather seen it as a Sci-Fi channel mini series though. It had to cut too many of the smart funny explanations short. It just seemed like the movie had to go from one unfinished scene to another just to get through the story. I understand why and liked it for what it is, but I still want to see it as a miniseries. The first exposure I ever had with THHGTTG was the BBC series and thats what I associate the guide with still.

The whale is in it (played by Bill Bailey, although it sounded uncannily like Eddie Izzard). There are a number of lines and sequences direct from the book/radio series/tv series/album (I get confused)

I have never read the books, seen the tv series, or listened to the radio show. As such, I liked the movie. I thought it was entertaining and funny. I don't think the writer/director/producer of the movie was going for a complete copy of the book, I think he/she was going for a movie loosely based off the books.

There were some very funny parts and there were parts that were boring. The movie also didn't really flow all that well from scene to scene but I don't think it was meant to.

The "terrible difficulty with my lifestyle" bit

is done about halfway through the credits, however they completely change the line to fit more with the contrived Arthur/Trillion = soulmates thing.

Whale/petunias, check and 1 of few well done bits.

Cops, ummm err don't remember seeing anything like that and it's been too long since I read it, I've forgotten it.

there are two cops that the gang is in the middle of a shoot-out with, and after a barrage of laser blasts they're yelling out stuff like, "We didn't enjoy that at all", and "I happen to be a very sensitive guy", before Marvin offs their support ship by explaining his view of the universe and it commiting suicide.

glad to hear about the whale and petunias.

those fucking bastards - does it still end with: "It's just life" ? that's really an important part of Adams' philosophy of the book - which, btw, I could go on and on about forever, since I KNOW THE ULTIMATE QUESTION, and may be the only person in the universe who does

I enjoyed it a lot...
I thought is was very Pythonesque,
and very true to the tone of the book & TV show.
It is true that many of the fans of the book are disappointed that there is a change of emphisis...
and it seems that many sci-fi fans who never heard of the book felt it was slow...
in fact Ebert & Roeper gave it two thumbs down

So even tho it was the #1 box office for this last weekend,
I'm thinking it won't manage to stay up there long...

But to repeat, I really enjoyed it a lot,
and laughed a lot!

Yeah, well No cops, no suicidal ship, no It's just life. If DNA had been involved for the whole project and not, sadly, passed, then surely it would have been better. Unfortunately, it looks to have failed the fans, and I don't forsee a sequel. I've been wrong before.

Holy shit was this bad. I had to watch the TV version to recover (I'm so glad that I taped this).

The lesson here is that low-budget done right is better than big-budget crap.
