Philip K. Dick’s The Man in the High Castle is coming to Syfy

Syfy just announced plans to adapt Philip K. Dick's award-winning 1962 novel The Man in the High Castle as a miniseries. The book is set in an alternate universe where the Axis won World War II, and America has been divided amongst Germany, Italy and Japan; the complex narrative covers several characters as they fight (or serve) the factions ruling America, try to stave off a nuclear attack, and funt for the mysterious author of a novel about an alternate history of their WWII where the Allies won (still nothing at all like our history).

It's a pretty ambitious work for Syfy to adapt, but there's good news in that regard; The Man in the High Castle will be executive produced by Framk Spotnitz of Millennium fame (and a writer on many X-Files episodes) and Ridley Scott (who you may already know). I don't think Scott would get involved if Syfy was planned to pull an Earthsea on this thing. There's absolutely no other news on the project, but we will definitely be keeping you posted.

There's no place I can be since I found Serenity.

I normally don't click on your posts, but in this case I knew what it was going to be about. Thanks for sticking to the subject and not going into one of your political conspiracy rants.

I wouldn't hold my breath if I were you. No matter the pedigree of the producers, Syfy (and the Sci-Fi Channel before the ridiculous name change) has made many an announcement like this for shows that never saw the light of day. I can recall mentions of Niven's Ringworld and Robinson's Mar's Trilogy among others.

And just because Ridley is attached doesn't mean he will have that much control over the script or the direction. Case in point: Alex Proyas, of The Crow and Dark City fame, was the producer for their first shot at Riverworld, and that turned out to be a piece of crap.

In this case the political timing is right, unfortunately.

Many TV series today are based upon the overthrow and destruction of USA. This is the publicly declared goal of our dictators, published in their magazines and newspapers, and broadcast by their TV channels.

The communists (Democrats) will LOVE a show where the Nazis (Republicans) are the bad guys. It's their version of Red Dawn. Instead of a red star its a red swastika and red sun. Red means socialism, apparently.

WHOZIT

Syfy has a bad rep of NOT spending a lot of money on movies or other projects.

This is to be a mini-series (if it ever gets made) and they've had a better track record on those than their horrible Saturday night creature features or most of their series. But even with the minis, they haven't done anything real SF since Galactica nearly ten years ago. I know some people don't consider alternate history to be SF, but I think this is potentially better than Alice, Tin Man or Neverland.
