Nice to see this post on the save Eureka site. After Firefly, Eureka became my most loved (still airing) show on television, and now it too is seeing a premature end. It had the same mix of drama, humor, and character chemistry that Firefly did so well. 77 episodes are better than 14, granted, but this show could have easily survived well into TNG/SG-1 episode-count territory. If nothing else, Eureka deserves a film treatment as much as FF.

Anyone else saddened by the loss of Eureka?

Also, lead Colin Ferguson reminds me a lot of Nathan Fillion (maybe it's a Canadian thing...) Same comedic ability and charm.

THESOMNAMBULIST

Hello SEBA

Yes I do love this show also. It sort of crept up on me. It's incredibly charming. Reminds me a lot of Northern Exposure but with a sic-fi twist. The stories are always fun and it has had some wonderful visual imagery, (buildings floating to the sky!) and Colin Ferguson's character is brilliant. I thought the last season was the strongest. I've not yet seen this season though....

That said there is a part of me that thinks they're better off finishing now while they are on such a high. I always felt with Northern Exposure they did one season more than they should have.

Best to end when the going is good. But it will be missed.

°...Well here I am.°

I've enjoyed EUREKA from the start and, like many others, felt is scratched the FIREFLY itch a bit. Like TS, though, I can't help but wonder if it's best that the show is going out while it's still pretty strong. 75+ episodes over five seasons is noting to sneeze at. That's considerably more than most shows get.

I having nothing but well wishes for those trying to save the show, but I can't join them. EUREKA had a good run and a good end. I will certainly watch it again if it returns to the air, but if it doesn't, I say thanks to the cast and crew. It was a fun ride!

There's no place I can be since I found Serenity.

I didn't think it was possible but I was extremely pleased with the finale. Jamie Paglia and company pulled that off in less than two weeks before Syfy shut them down permanently. While I agree that it had more stories left to tell, and it is possible we could get a reunion movie down the road, the sets have been destroyed and the actors and crew have been released from their contracts, and some already have new gigs. Let's be grateful for the five seasons we did get.

CYBERSNARK

Yeah, as much as I love the show, there's something to be said for having a proper ending. Especially with that loop-around to the first episode. Continuing after that would just cheapen it.

(Though, if someone were able to pitch a Eureka movie, I'd be there opening weekend.)

They did leave it open for a great future in Eureka. They are no longer tied to the DoD, so their research can go any direction they want without the major push for weaponizing everything. An actual trip to Titan is something I would love to see, or even another solar system to explore for habitable planets. Unfortunately, that would require quite an FX budget, so not likely to happen. The least they could do is give us some more crossover episodes with Fargo on Warehouse 13, or maybe Jack on Alphas.

Was it me, or did Zoey and Dr. Brashear sound like they had voice (or voice-over) issues on the finale?

Zoe's voice did seem a bit huskier than when we last saw her, so she maybe had to re-do some of those lines. I'm not sure who Dr. Brashear is. Do you mean James Callis (Trevor Grant/Trent Brockman)? If so, I think his problem was he was having a hard time trying to hide his natural accent this time around.

I'm a Eureka fan for sure, but I think it's a good time to wrap it up. Nobody that I know is sick of it yet, storylines have been taken care of, Eureka is free to live on in our imaginations and our fic. We can see and love our favorite actors in new parts on other shows, and we can marathon DVDs until our eyeballs fall out.

On short, it's what we all could have wished for Firefly.

It seemed like Zoey's lines were really short like she had a cold or maybe vocal problems.

The 'Dr. Brashear' name is an old joke a bunch of my friends and I had in regards to James Callis's character Dr. Bashir on Deep Space Nine. Unfortunately, that name stuck in my brain housing group instead of the actual character name. And I think you may be right about the reason for his vocal issues.

James Callis was Dr. Baltar on the new Battlestar Galactica. Dr. Bashir on DS9 was played by Alexander Siddig.

I agree it's rare to get a proper ending, and working in jabs at the network/parent company was brilliant, but part of me wishes that they would at least do a TV movie to revisit the whole Artifact thing that dominated the first couple seasons - felt like they just dropped what was supposed to be this major element to the show. Maybe work in a more thorough exploration of the Consortium as well.

For a show like Eureka, the story arcs are not there to be resolved but to prevent the "disaster of the week" stories from getting boring.
