... during last weekend's United Fan Con held in Boston where actress Marina Sirtis (Counselor Troi) was a guest of honor. When asked when the next TREK movie would arrive in theaters, Sirtis told the crowd "It's over. There's not going to be another one."

She suggested that maybe the franchise needs to remain fallow for a decade at least before being brought back.

There's no place I can be since I found Serenity.

The quote I read from another source was that she said there would not be any more TNG movies, not that there would be no more Trek films at all.

I was at United Fan Con. She did seem pretty certain that there were no plans for another movie. That's my take anyway.

PARADIGMSHIFT

You know, I'm a Star Trek nut from way back, but, honestly, I think this is a good thing. I mean, the Original Series was television at its best, Next Generation was amazing, Deep Space Nine had balls of brass, and dared do things I hadn't dreamed that Star Trek was capable of doing. That franchise can boast the first interracial kiss, the first lesbian kiss, and the most diverse sixties cast ever, but things are not as they once were.

I hate to say it, but Voyager was no good. There were moments of interest, but on the whole it just fell down. So, unfortunately, has Enterprise. And the movies . . . well, I can really only list three that I love, and those are Wrath of Khan, Voyage Home, and First Contact. And after first contact, things deteriorated in a hurry.

So, honestly speaking, I would love to see a Deep Space Nine movie, but it would kill me if it were bad. A decade off might just be the ticket to breathe life into this once-great franchise.

Enough soliloquizing.

I saw a rumor at AICN that Paramount is dumping Berman and Braga and bringing in Jordan Kerner who produced Inspector Gadget and Snow Dogs. They are planning a trilogy of films but set in another time period from the tv shows. Here is a copy of part of that article. Some of this may be entirely unreliable... like i said RUMOR... maybe one of you who frequent the Trekbbs may have heard more.

Quote:

First, the good news. No Berman. No Braga. Instead, Jordan Kerner (SNOW DOGS, INSPECTOR GADGET, THE MIGHTY DUCKS and D2 and D3) is being brought in to produce. Right now, he’s in the early stages of developing a prequel trilogy. First question, obviously, is “a prequel to what?” After all, the various TV shows have played all sorts of tricks with the timeline. When I hear “prequel trilogy,” it sounds to me like we’re going to see young Kirk and young Spock and young McCoy. It sounds to me like we’re talking about Starfleet Academy.
Instead, we’re looking at films that sound like they’re all about big intergalactic events, but which don’t appear to be about any characters, which is what Gene Roddenberry’s original vision was ALWAYS about. Characters. Don’t just try to tell some big budget spectacle story. I hear the first film’s about a civil war, the second film’s devoted largely to the galactic switch-over from a fission standard to fusion, and then there’s a third film where we’ll finally see an Ensign Kirk show up for all of about the last 20 minutes. Just Kirk. Nobody else. And no ENTERPRISE.
And that notion they’re discussing in hushed and excited tones about putting William Shatner’s head on a younger actor’s body? Easily the goofiest bad idea I’ve heard since Lex Luthor, flying Kryptonian. It almost makes me want to see them do it, just for the laugh value.
You’re still really early in this process, Paramount, so please... allow me to offer a little bit of constructive criticism. You need to listen to your fans. And I’m not saying listen to me. Read the message boards that are out there. Cast as wide a net as you can across fandom and let the fans remind you just what it is that made TREK so important to them in the first place. Reach out and take the time to get it right. Don’t just chase STAR WARS and LORD OF THE RINGS, and don’t throw money at it just to make STAR TREK into something it never was.
I’m going to try to bring you more details about this proposed trilogy as they continue working on it, and in the meantime, I’ll hand it over to the real TREK fans, you guys. What do you think of Paramount’s plans?

No. NoNoNoNoNoNo!!

Whoever posted that was absolutely right! While the idea of a Starfleet Academy thing galls me, it's not nearly as bad as the intergalactic events idea! Star Trek has alwasy been about the people! One little group against a very big, very weird galaxy! It's the damn wagon train to the stars concept!

Seems to me that the Star Trek people have let franchise go to their heads, and have lost track of why this all got started in the first place: the galaxy's a strange place, but it's the people you know that makes the going worth doing. It's about friendships, and sacrifices, and the damn crew! The events were only things to motivate that crew, to make them do things that they normally would not or could not!

Damn, damn and double damn. My beloved Trek is in the hands of morons!
