I watched an old Gene Roddenberry TV movie last night from 1973 called Genesis II. In it, an American scientist (Alex Cord) is sealed in a pressure chamber right before an earthquake, and awakens 150 years in the future. He makes reference in a flashback about the building of the world-wide underground sub-shuttle system used for military and political dignitaries....then he says if would never have been possible if not for the new United States - China Alliance. This would have been soon after Nixon's trip to China, so I guess Roddenberry took the opportunity to envision an Alliance in the future. What didn't he envision?

If I remember correctly, Genesis II was one tv movie that was part of a trilogy; one other being Earth 2, and the third I can't remember. They all involved post-apocalyptic visions of what civilization would look like in different parts of the world. One region was controlled by women who kept their slave-men drugged for work and sex. Not really that ominous a future, but Gene R. was a known ladie's man, and he probably got a big kick out of this TV movie.

Maybe hiatus was the wrong choice of words... perhaps extended break. Sorry for jacking the thread Jongsstraw.

If you think about it, the idea seems to be just a World Order Company NWO Mega-Corp but replace Japanese or USSR with a new flavor of China plus Socialism, the mix of language in Blade Runner, Total Recall a planet is owned, Weyland-Yutani from Aliens, Girl from Tomorrow 2500 Global Corporation and 'Ghost in the Shell' anime even looks like HongKong.
