I'm starting to see some rumors that Surface may not be long for this world. I've been reading that it will not air after the Olympics, that they will only air 15 or so episodes (short of a full season), and that they are speeding up the plot to finish by then. Can anyone confirm? Anyone heard something from a good source?

All I know is I'm loving it, and they just said (or strongly implied) that there're only two episodes left. Looks like it'll have a conclusion, though, which is something I love my shows to have.

Yeah, it's only been a season (if that), but in many ways I'd rather watch a short-lived complete series than something that runs for years and just kinda peters out.

Plus Nimrod's awesome.

I really gave Surface a try. I watched the first four episodes and all I can say is I wish they cancelled it after the pilot. You may love it, but I just thought it was junk TV.

Thought I'd just mention this:

Surface has been on UK terrestrial TV for two weeks now... it began on Saturday afternoons (about 3:00pm or so) without announcement on ITV. I missed the first one due to lack of knowledge. The second one was alright, but nothing exceptional...

UK browncoats check it out if you can...

What happened? He see your face?

Yes. Sad to say it has been dropped. (they donated the set furniture and clothing to charity)

although not a spectacular show it was better than most "Junk TV", as it was deemed, out there.

I live in Wilmington, NC where it is filmed. Not so good for our industry!

U gona be smart here Riva!?!

Stargate Atlantis and Suface are the only 2 shows I watch anymore after Firefly. If it gets cancelled, that sounds about right. Does there seem to be a conspiracy out there against Sci-Fi? Anyone know anything about how Threshold was doing? I thought that was junk Sci-Fi. I'm a chic, and the only thing I think that would save surface, is more of the doctor in her bikini.

It was announced some time ago .. that Surface was only picked up for 15 episodes this season, part of the reasoning is that the olympics are comming, and that NBC has been trying out a bunch of shows.
If you check out thefutoncritic.com, there was an article where they talked to the head of programming for NBC, and he answers questions about numerous shows . including Surface.
As for an ending .. Surface will have some closure after episode 15, but obviously not all plot points will be resolved. As of now, they say that there are no plans to cancel or pick up the show, unfortunatly Surface's ratings havent been that good this year, so it wouldnt suprise me if they give it the axe, but just be thankful that it will have some closure, unlike most genre shows.
Also, something to think on, is that currently NBC is 3rd in the ratings for the season, so there is a chance that they might keep Surface next year, b/c they can count on a certain number of viewers, and that alot of NBC shows at the moment just are not performing all too well.
I think it just depends on what pilots NBC has, and if they have one that would make a good companion show with it, as of now its aired right before Las Vegas .. and those two shows couldnt be farther apart.

Threshold has been cancelled, it only aired like 9 episodes, and they had made 12 episodes total.
Threshold's ratings were actually better than Surface's ratings, but CBS is the number one station in the nation, and so they have a higher expectation than NBC does.
It wasnt a bad show, personally out of the 3 shows that came out this year Surface, Threshold and Invasion .. I thought Threshold started out the strongest, and Invasion the weakest. My opinion has changed as the season went on .. Surface is by far my favorite now, and Invasion is getting better

Thanks for the info, Arius!

Just a small correction on Threshold; they actually made 14 or 15, and the unaired ones are currently showing in the UK. Also, it was getting about the same ratings as Surface when it was on Fridays (about 5.8), but when they moved it to Wednesday(??), it did much worse (4.5). That combined with the replacement show on Friday doing better than it did killed it.
