FIREFLYGAL

I love Star Wars, always have and I'll always will be a fan, but not so much in the last couple of years. When Lucas had Greedo shooting first would be about when Lucas lost me as a BIG fan. Sure, it's his movie and if he wants Greedo to shoot first in the DVDs and rereleases, fine.

However, even though there is reported to be no more films after this one, I can show my allegience to Serenity and NOT go see Star Wars within the first two weeks. Has anyone passed the idea around of waiting before we go see Star Wars, maybe we can influence the numbers somewhat and show Lucas and the studio our disappointment. Then meanwhile in September we fans make the BDM the sci-fi hit of the year!! I know that NOT seeing Star Wars right away will be tough, especially since the trailers look kick a** but I'm willing to do it for the BDHs! Am I crazy or anyone think I have a decent idea? Spread this over to the official board if anyone thinks it's credible.

FORRESTWOLF

I for one have absolutely NO intention of seeing Star Wars at the theater. I save that for maybe 2-3 movies a year - Serenity will of COURSE be one. I'll probably watch Episode 3 on DVD, and be disappointed like I was in Episode 2.

So I agree - why bother? It'll be a disappointment anyway. Just hold off on watching it till later, folks!

WILDBILL

I managed to borrow a set of the Trilogy DVDs from the library. I wasn't going to actually buy it given the tampering.

To the point:
I really wanted to see it for the documentary included in the set (which is great) and the commentaries. Does anyone else think that the commentary is lame? I have only yet to listen to it for the first film.

By the way, my favorite film commentaries are on "Alien" and "Escape from New York".

STEWIE

I don't think Joss Whedon should do star wars TV. I think Kevin Smith should..

I love firefly to death, Its based on the original star wars, side arms, smugglers just very little of the "force or jedi" involved...

It's got all the same elements a galactic empire, smugglers and outer rim terrotories...

Star Wars TV by joss would just be fire fly again... well why not just have fire fly... I like the verse enough.. I feel joss would just be pitching fire fly stories and converting them to star wars tv...

As for angel and buffy... well I like them in a sort of not really fanatical about them kinda way..but as a person in my 30's it was too teen based for me... fire fly was aimed at a more mature audience... buffy and angel were aimed at teens...

Buffy and Angel for me were the worst vampire genre ever...the vamps were weak and too easy to kill and so damn cliched... I don't think joss had any respect for the vampire genre otherwise he would'nt have "insert vampire joke" formula that ran through buffy and angel... It was just too fluffy for me... the vampires were not scary predators, in fact they were just fluffy vamps...
Don't get me wrong, buffy and angel were "Fun" but I watched them as comedys not as anything else.. I hated when they tried to do serious storylines... and I really did'nt give a damn about the love arcs... as the characters were not grounded in any reality....so I am not a all round joss whedon fan (why am I here? because I ADORE firefly)

Whilst firefly on the otherhand was grounded in a scientific reality, you knew the limits, you were always assured things would not get too silly... sure it was funny, but the laughs were more genuine because they were not cliched..

I don't know why I added that... I love firefly...It's a pity its joss least successful outing..

GTHING

Okay! I'm just going to say this once. You can call me a fool if you want. The fact is: most of the footage removed from the original trilogy is unimpressive footage. The Death Star battle from the first Star Wars is so much better now and no less imaginative. Cloud City in Empire looks terrific now. Why complain; it really looks the way it was intended to look. I wouldn't trade away the scene where Luke runs into Biggs and meets the Red Leader for anything. Guess what, that scene is not in the original theatrical version, but it fits perfectly with the rest of the movie! Also, Luke, Han, Leia, Obi-Wan, Yoda, Darth are all still there -- just as they were before! It's a wonderful trilogy that's actually become a little better.

Excerpt from My Genre Geek Resume:
~huge Odyssey 5 fan (despite its cancellation)
~dangerously obsessed with BtVS and Angel
~former Andromeda fan

Stewie, it depends on how you define success on whether Firefly was Joss's LEAST successful or MOST successful series. If nothing else, it's going to end up as a major motion picture - possibly a trilogy. And to stick to the topic, it'll win the awards that Star Wars doesn't :)
