I've always been a HUGE HUGE Frank Herbert fan. I've got the extended Sci-Fi channels Dune mini-series on DVD along with the reciently released Children of Dune which is the compialiation of the books Messiah and Children.

Until now I've been annoyed that the only extended 1984 David Lynch film I own is an old crummy VHS copy with commercial edits. Ugg.

Now if only Sci-Fi would go on to produce God Emperor of Dune.

Of course I have issues with the 1984 film. But I also have issues with what Sci-Fi did too. But when you combine the efforts of both productions you get a pretty decient overall experience.

The 1984 version's problem was that they fell into the trap of making things up to "spice up the film" (i.e. killing ppl with sound.) Sci-Fi stayed mostly true to the tale but dressed the actors up in stupid costumes: example see Feyd's absurd outfit with the triangle on his back.

Hey, if you're a bigger David Lynch fan and want to own more than his 1984 dune you can also find Twin Peaks season 1 on DVD now. Season 2, however, is still having an issue because the ownership of the season 2 rights is in the hands of some entity(I don't know who) that is resisting a DVD release for whatever reason. Rumor holds that rights might sell in Sept of this year which could produce an '06 DVD release. Twin Peaks is another show that, like Dune, might continue to fall between the cracks.
