please don't hurt me if this has been posted somewhere else before...
...but does anyone else reckon that the killing of Bendis (the browncoat that along with Mal is 'too pretty to die')in the ep 'Serenity' is a lighthearted jab (from Joss) at Brian Michael Bendis, super-prolific comicbook writer?

I did think this at the time but.....I don't know how much of a jab or what would be a point.

Maybe it's just a handy name to pull - a surname that sounds good on it's own.

I think Brian and Joss get on in any case - Joss pitched in some ideas for the overall arc of this summer's House of M cross over.

Always figured he was named for BMB, but it never crossed my mind that killing him was a "jab". Always just thought of the name as a "wink".

I figured he was named for Brian Michael as well, but then again, I picked up the box set AFTER he hit it big at Marvel.

Maybe Joss was mad at Bendis about the "Avengers Disassembled" storyline and decided to take it out on one of his characters...
