Newbie questions. Perharps it has been discuss on others threads, but i can't read all. Perhaps it's on books, but i havent them.
So here's my questions?
First what kind of governement rule the verse?
It's a parlement but which kind. The only officals i have see is the duke in Shindind (many people seems noble in the bal), the councelor in War Stories, and some kind of governors in various episode (who seems to have all the powers and certainly not elected). My opinion is it's a kind of governement "censitaire" (i don't find the traduction, that's mean only people with status and/or money vote like Inara in the pilot about voting for the unification, with a part of nobility, like in Dune, and perhaps a king (mal make a joke about crow and king in a episode) and a emperor for the chinese.

That's make my second question, where are the chinese/asian side?
No official in any episode (particulary shinding), no soldiers too, specially in the war cruisers, few planets with asian name in the verse card i can find here.
Few chinese actors? no quota for chinese in Tv show? not enough time to show them?

What has become to euro countries?
For England, it's clear. French seems to big part of the Alliance, cause Bernadette* is part of the Core World, and a planet is call Beaumonde (means beautiful world). I'm french, that's flatter me in on sens, be part of the Alliance less.
But others? i don't know enough others language to recognize euro-planet names. And that's seems me strange russian have vanished.

What has become to africa, south america?
assimilated?

*Bernadette. The two most famous Bernadette In France are Bernadette Chirac, the wife of the president jacques Chirac, and Bernadette Soubirous who "supposed" have apparition of Blessed Virgin Mary at Lourdes. Seems doesnt link to the show, sonority must be reason of the choice.
By the way, i like the fact american scenarist use firstname that have been nearly disapear in France, like in Alias too. and when french, choose firstname of their kids from tvshow, specially from soaps like Beverly Hills

Well I will try and help you out considering that my major was International Studies ie East Asia. From what I can see the Alliance could be considered either as a Monarchy/Parlament, similar to the U.K. (with or without colonies) or a Federation/Confederacy (All though any model of Government could work). 2nd my view is that the other cultures and ethnicities (sp?) are still there just as minorities. For example, Nagasaki in Japan is a good one. Although predominatly Japanese population it has a native Chinese presence due to the centuries of trade and cultural exchange. Also history w/ Dutch, Spanish, and Portugesh, plus major consulates well Japan was being opened up. One of the few ports that was open somewhat to foreigners during Japan's Isolation period. Basically the culture and language would servive, just like how the Celtic and Welsh culture/language still servies in U.K., but is not widely spoken as English is etc. Remeber the series was canceled before alot of the background could be fleshed out for us fans. Welcome to Hollywood, but see what happens. Would like a lot more of the Asian population to be brought in and a stronger push for marketing the movie/series in Japan and Rest of Asia. Hope this helps. Feel free to throw out any more questions for me and see what I can help ya come up with.
