Its the 2ed ever sci-fi show with a plot, Babylon 5 was the first...but it got cut short, I just hope fire fly does not.

What do You mean cut short?

Babylon 5 was set to be a 5 year story arc before the show even got picked up.

Some of the actors thought the show could have kept going. Most of all Jerry Doyle(Garibaldi) who even tried to get together another series a couple of years back. A very good interview can be found at: http://filmforce.ign.com/articles/378/378489p1.html. He talks alot about his run for congress and politics but says alot about his "feelings" for Straczynski and even calls Bill Shatner an incredibly big ***hole.

Maybe your referring to the whole Crusade thing? I Feel Crusade could have been made into a good show if given a chance.

I do see a big parallel in the fact that when B5 first aired it was a struggle to keep it going. Different networks, different time slots, but it got aired. Lets hope Firefly can get as lucky.

Or are you referring to The Legend of the Rangers? Would have liked to see a series but it honestly was not that good a movie.

But, if you are in to J.M.S. read his comics. Midnight Nation is an incredible read along with Rising Stars which still has a few issues to come and Spiderman has been very entertaining as well. Have to point out though, Midinght Nation=great.

I had heard a rumor that B5 was to be cut after four years (you're right that the plan was for five years). Thus, they had to wrap the stories up quicker than they would have wanted to. Then, when word came back that there would indeed be a fifth season, they had to come up with some quick fixes for the end of season 4 and all of season 5. Can anyone verify this?

Actually they filmed the last episode at the end of season 4 in case they didn't get renewed they could show the final story. If you look at season 5 it seems to set up future stories that maybe could have gone somewhere and finishes off this story quite well.
