Now I have to go out and get a Blu-ray player!

Some great reviews of the new release out there, this being my favorite...

This was the movie that evolved my movie tastes when I was 8. Never again would I allow myself to be taken to "kiddie" fare.
No movie has put me "in the driver's seat" like this one, precisely because of the near-total lack of dialogue (and plot) that all the critics attacked when the movie first came out.
Must've run it 237 times when I found it on DVD (kept it on 'Loop' for about 2 weeks straight, sort of as video wallpaper... and wore out my table-top player).

(Always loved how the height/width of the #8 Ferrari in that second YouTube clip is the exact aspect ratio as the picture frame)

Funny, but the "pit girls" at the Monaco Grand Prix last weekend were wearing "throwback" dresses designed to echo the McQueen/LeMans look. And they looked damn good, too!

Shawinnnnng!!

And it's quite fitting, because McQueen wore a Heuer Monaco in the movie.

The cars WERE the dialog.

I understood every word spoken by the Ferrari and Porsche at 230 mph.

Sad when the Porsche died hitting the guardrail.

I got to see those actual Porsche and Ferrai "Le Mans" movie cars in the owner's garage at the Scottsdale AZ airport as a kid (I just walked in, my brother got a photo of me trespassing somewhere).

That's why I went racing in England. When he died I attended his memorial service at an ancient cathedral in London. Many famous folk were there, but I didn't recognize anyone. They were out of my pay grade.

My first racing school in England was the Jim Russell School, which still had one of the original Formula Ford racers used in James Garner's "Grand Prix" movie. This old car was used on a shitty low-tech skid pad to practice sliding on bald tires in water. That's one more reason I love watching Archer, with Jessica Walter, the GP Ouzo Girl.

It's a small world after all.
