NOTES ON STREAMING (07/19/2023): It has been reported that the 6 episodes of Secret Invasion cost $212 Million to make, or $35.3 Million per episode. That's quite expensive considering that almost every scene is just 2 or 3 characters sitting inside a room talking to each other. https://www.forbes.com/sites/carolinereid/2023/07/08/disney-shells-out-212-million-on-secret-invasion/ It has also been reported that Disney will lose another $800,000,000+ this quarter on Disney+. This brings the entire loss on their streaming service to over $4 Billion since it was launched. https://dlnewstoday.com/2023/07/breaking-ceo-bob-iger-considering-selling-streaming-services-and-other-assets-may-even-try-to-sell-entire-disney-company/ NOTES ON STREAMING (07/31/2023): The 6th and final episode of Secret Invasion is now officially the lowest rated critics score for any Marvel TV Show property in history at only 7%, with one critic writing "A huge miscalculation in emphasizing brawn over brain, this finale is so misjudged that most MCU fans will want to keep it secret from their collective memory." Way to spend $212 Million, Disney. https://www.rottentomatoes.com/tv/secret_invasion/s01/e06 https://www.rottentomatoes.com/tv/secret_invasion/s01/e06/reviews?intcmp=rt-scorecard_tomatometer-reviews

The second biggest question is has Disney tarnished their brand so badly that they will have their first Toy Story flop. The third biggest question is will Disney learn from their mistakes when it doesn't meet expectations.
Quote:Originally posted by second (April 23rd, 2022): Expectations, 6ix? This is NOT Toy Story 5. Disney will be fine. The trailer for Lightyear hints that the scriptwriter saw Planet of the Apes. Buzz Lightyear travels at hyperspeed, left only 4 minutes ago, but returns 62 years, 7 months into the future. Things have changed for the worst, but it is not intelligent apes causing problems. Unlike Charlton Heston, who could not save the planet because he got beat up by gorillas, Chris Evans as Buzz Lightyear is gonna kick James Brolin's giant robot butt.
Quote:Originally posted by 6IXSTRINGJACK (April 23rd, 2022): There are always expectations. Disney hasn't met them with most of their recent flicks, especially the Marvel trash they've been putting out. Let's see how badly they want to stop losing money. If they put any Leftist agenda shit in there you can bet that they're going to have their first Toy Story branded loser on their hands.
Quote:Originally posted by second (April 24th, 2022): 6ix, you don't have money, which is why Disney doesn't produce entertainment to please you. You are worthless to Disney unless you have money to buy a ticket. That is how free market capitalism has always worked. Disney’s decision to oppose Florida’s “don’t say gay” law is all about appealing to Disney’s consumers. Republicans who most yearn to make America “great” again — aging, rural, white men — are at the bottom of the consumer totem pole and lack the financial clout to swing the free market. Conservatives just can’t handle the fact that their political ideology is toxic to people who buy tickets for Disney World and Disney movies. Fox News agitator Laura Ingraham had previously warned that if companies like Disney didn’t “stay in their lane” — focusing on maximizing profit, but shutting up about politics — “everything will be on the table” if Republicans return to power in November, including “your copyright and trademark protection, your special status within certain states, and even your corporate structure itself.” GOP Senator Marsha Blackburn denounced Disney’s criticism as “how the woke left extremists are using corporations to push their agenda.” Here’s the irony, though: While Disney controls municipal functions in Reedy Creek, its special tax district, it also foots the bill — for the fire department, sewer treatment, and so on. The elimination of that special status thus will save Disney $163 million annually, passing on $1 billion in debt to taxpayers in Orange and Osceola counties and forcing massive local tax hikes. So what in the name of Adam Smith’s invisible hand is going on here? https://newrepublic.com/article/166186/florida-republicans-revoke-disney-special-tax-status-lost-faith-free-market
Quote:Back in April 2023, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis officially dissolved the Reedy Creek Improvement District. The special district had been around since 1967 and allowed Disney to function as its own form of government. DeSantis and the Republican-led Florida legislature voted to dissolve Reedy Creek after DeSantis and Disney began locking horns in March 2022.
Quote:Should you invest $1,000 in Walt Disney right now? Before you buy stock in Walt Disney, consider this: The Motley Fool Stock Advisor analyst team just identified what they believe are the 10 best stocks for investors to buy now... and Walt Disney wasn't one of them. The 10 stocks that made the cut could produce monster returns in the coming years.

Why don't you post more links of your pirated Firefly stuff, you piece of shit? Quote:Disney’s decision to oppose Florida’s “don’t say gay” law is all about appealing to Disney’s consumers. No it's not. It's pissing off the people who used to pay to see Disney. Look at their stock prices. Democrats and Leftists are done, buddy. Expect the new Bob to be fired from his position at Disney and a huge change in the corporate structure to occur over the next year. Disney is tired of losing money, pandering to a woke Titter mob that doesn't bring them any cash. I didn't bother reading the rest of your bullshit, as per usual. We'll see the box office results of this woke dumpster fire and I'll give you my I Told You Sos then. You've accumulated quite a collection of them so far, haven't you?

Quote:Pixar, the Emeryville animation studio owned by Disney, is set to undergo a significant reduction in its workforce this year. Initial reports suggested a potential layoff of up to 20%, a projection that would impact approximately 240 employees out of Pixar’s team of 1,200. However, the studio has clarified that these numbers are too high, and the number of affected employees is yet to be determined. The final count will depend on various factors, including production schedules and staffing requirements for upcoming approved projects. Pixar informed TechCrunch, the first to report the news, that the layoffs are not imminent but are planned for later this year, aligning with the company’s shift toward producing less content. Sources indicate that many affected people were hired to produce content for the streaming platform Disney+, which is yet to be profitable..
Quote:Disney acquired Pixar in 2006, following the success of animation hits like “Toy Story” and “The Incredibles.” In June, the studio underwent a round of layoffs that affected 75 people, including two executives associated with the box office disappointment “Lightyear” — director Angus MacLane and producer Galyn Susman. Last summer’s layoffs marked the first significant cuts for Pixar in a decade.

Quote:Disney and TSG Entertainment Finance have settled litigation from August of 2023 when the financier sued the media giant for “rampant self-dealing” and breach of the parties’ revenue participation contract. “The matter has been resolved,” said a Disney spokesperson. TSG said it has financed more than 140 films to the tune of $3.3 billion over the years with Fox, which Disney acquired in 2019, including Avatar: The Way of Water, Bohemian Rhapsody, Deadpool, Deadpool 2, X-Men: Days of Future Past, Logan, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, The Martian, The Grand Budapest Hotel, JoJo Rabbit, The Banshees of Inisherin, Hidden Figures, The Shape of Water and Empire of Light. TSG’s lawsuit filed last August in Los Angeles District Court said that Fox had promised TSG a share of defined gross receipts for pictures under the companies’ long-term participation agreement but that the studio used “nearly every trick in the Hollywood accounting book” to not pay. The financier accused Disney/Fox of self-dealing with FX, Hulu and Disney+, said its revenue began to shrink and that an audit it commissioned showed breaches of contract. It didn’t specify which films were examined. Elsewhere in the suit it noted 2017 Oscar-winning The Shape of Water was licensed to Fox “in a backroom side deal that appallingly shaved nearly $4 million off of the parties’ previously agreed-upon price.” TSG said studio had promised to distribute co-financed films “on a fair, reasonable, good faith and non-discriminatory basis” but did not, TSG said, noting former CEO Bob Chapek’s shortened exclusive theatrical windows in favor of pushing content onto Disney+ to grow the streamer’s subscriptions, reducing the theatrical revenue that TSG counted on. That was an issue for others as well. Scarlett Johansson sued Disney over the release of Black Widow across both movie theaters and Disney+ in 2021. “By 2022, this admittedly thoughtless Disney strategy, and Fox’s pattern of systematic self-dealing and Hollywood Accounting, had deprived TSG of the cash it needed to fund future Qualifying Pictures. But for this lack of liquidity, TSG would have fully invested in additional Fox films and reaped the full financial benefits associated with maximizing its investments in these Qualified Pictures.”

Quote:Only if Disney has 80 million rabid fans worldwide (a mere 1% of Earth’s population) who would happily pay a high price and travel long distances to see a movie immediately rather than wait a few weeks to see it at home for FREE.

Quote:And the Trumptards act as if Hollywood losing money is a sure portent of Trump's eventual victory.
Quote:It is a sign that Hollywood, a minor business compared to selling hot coffee, sells crap. Hollywood has always sold worthless crap to morons and its managers have always been bad at managing. That is why many movie studios have gone out of business in the past and more will in the future. That's even why Joss Whedon of Firefly fame is on hiatus. He was a terrible manager around employees. That is why Harvey Weinstein is in prison. He and his goddamn brother won't be making more crap movies.

This is not specific to Hollywood, nor has it ever been. For over a decade now though, they have felt like they were invincible. Invulnerable to criticism of their cynical pandering, with the full force of the media behind them. And it didn't matter how much money they were losing because there was always more. Those days are over now. And the irony is that it was Joe Biden* and the Democrats we have to thank for that.

Quote:If Hollywood never made another movie, we'd be better for its death. What about Hollywood's employees? They can sell coffee, another worthless industry providing a similar addiction that we'd be better off if it had never been discovered by drugged goats in Ethiopia, around 800 AD.
