Battle Angel looks so much better though, well from the previews. Is that just a theory, or is that actually part of the movie (or whatever work it was derived from)? I don't suppose the creator's AI would agree that was necessary once it was capable of self replicating. I find that to be more compelling than what I thought at first glance. I figured they were just trying to draw in the Anime crowd. I didn't even know she was a robot, although I did pay attention to a commercial I saw at work to notice that she was the only one that didn't have normal eyes. Do Right, Be Right. :)

Quote:When she was just 15 months old, Tilly Lockey, from the north of England, fought the battle of her life against meningococcal septicemia. She survived; however, both her hands needed to be amputated. Tilly, now 13 and an advocate for kids with prosthetics, received a surprising gift from the creators of the new film Alita: Battle Angel : a set of state-of-the-art bionic hands.

Some have mentioned that they have seen different incarnations of the trailers and ads, seeming to indicate different storylines or Focus. Most of these I don't think I've seen. Having seen the film, were those various types of direction Incorporated into the finished film? Were they each merely facets of the whole picture, or does it seem the actual film and story were changed, re-done, shifted direction? This can be discussed in depth in a discussion thread without Spoilers here in this thread, but I'd like a first take here if possible.

Quote:Originally posted by JEWELSTAITEFAN: I watched the first available 2D showing tonight. Now I want to see it again. Partly due to some story devices that I was slow to pick up on, and partly because there are some characters I want to visit again. I've seen some extended clips lately during the promotional appearances, and they were good. But nothing I've seen was anywhere near the best scenes in the film. The fight scenes reminded me of River. The year is 2563, on Earth. So another half century into the future from our BDS. I didn't even recognize Jeff Fahey until he spoke. Some of the imagery of genre canon was unexpected, but I loved it. They seem to have wrapped it all together well. It occurred to me that perhaps the last time I looked forward to a film this much was Valerian, and that ended up being disappointing. Alita leaves me with no disappointment, all of the things Valerian was short on Alita does not share. Alita delivers. Looking back, I don't feel there were any slow spots. I might feel the story may have been even rushed, but it was subtle and only as compared to my preconceptions. Like Star Wars, Arrival, Rogue One, Terminator, Edge of Tomorrow, at the end I was ready for more. Seems this was filmed in Texas. I have seen other works from Director Rodriguez, but this one exceeds all of his past work, by a far margin. This exhibits facets which only a Director can control, and he did it all very well. A decent review should also cover the bad. So here is the bad: in a few scenes the color/brightness continuity jumped, stuttered, shifted. I saw no intent in this, so I assume it was error. As I mentioned, I saw the 2D showing, and the feel for this inconsistency was that it might have been in conversion between versions, so 3D might not have it.

The only comparison I could make is Alita is the film that Avatar wished it could be. I hope to see the entire trilogy of Alita, but I'm not sure I'll catch the Avatar franchise in cinema.

Captain Marvel ads outpace Alita 10 to 1, from what I'm seeing on t.v. Ever since Serenity came out, I've really noticed what shows up on t.v., billboards, and generally anything out and about in the public sphere.

I've mentioned before that way back when Armageddon was released, I saw these posters at bus stops. Very visible, fairly basic, simple , and capturing the attention of all those who rode the bus, drove or walked by. I always thought , when Serenity came out, why didn't we see similar ads ? I think in key areas, around universities, college campi, and other areas with demographics from 24-44, aka the general target age of most sci-fi fans, would have made sense. Sure beats stuffing fliers in video stores and the like, as some of the guerrilla marketing of the day we tried.

Both movies were hyped because of the 1994 Shoemaker-Levy 9 comet impact of Jupiter. Big ass impacts were fresh in the mind of the public when these movies came out. Show me the timeline of scripts and inside baseball details as to who stole whose idea first. For all the splash and sparkles of Armageddon, D.E. was , imo, a more scientifically accurate , and thus BETTER movie.

As an aside, I tried to find it in IMAX, but alas could not find it in my area in IMAX because Capt. Marvel took over all the IMAX theaters. I'm anxiously waiting for the Blu-Ray version whenever this movie is released on digital/DVD. I'm hoping that it reaches $400 worldwide, because that's what I read online about a possible sequel. I may even get the manga. But my biggest excitement is for Rosa Salazar, the star of the movie, she was awesome in every kind of way. She is the Spanish Emily Blunt, that's how good she is. Check out Chris Stuckman's review (I'm starting to like this guy, he gives a "no bullshit" review): Check it: I really want to see this in IMAX. SGG
