New twist on recruitment

Sooo, my mom has a new method of recruiting folks to Firefly.

Last week, her car was in the shop (it ate its timing chain among other issues). The mechanics asked her where the space ship on the side of her car was from, wide eyed she answered, " You dont know?" and left.

At this point, I need to mention, my mother, she has several decals on her car, everything from Blue Sun, to Shiny (on my website hers is the white car that models the big ship).

Fast forward to yesterday, my younger brother who bought my old car off of me decals and all had his in for a brake job. When they called to say the car was ready, he answered, "Shiny!" and hung up. When he went in to pay, he was told there was no charge (they were correcting a squeak resulting from a brakejob), again his response was, "Shiny."

The mechanics (yes plural, by this point, multiple mechanics were intrigued / perplexed by the families use of shiny, and his car too sports the ship (smaller with chrome backing) at this point, said, "ok, we have got to ask, why do you say shiny, and why is it on your moms car?, and speaking of your moms car, what is that ship we keep seeing... its on yours too, we tried asking your mom, and she left us hanging, she totally left without telling us!!!"

My brother being the true browncoat he is, gladly satisfied their curiousity and filled them in on just what they were missing out on. There is now a mechanics shop eagerly searching out the box set... I have to run by there this evening and give them flyers for our csts screening... I think.. I may need to loan them disc 1.. they do have a tv in their waiting room...

I'm just soo proud of my family and their recruitment tactics, mom with her leaving them hanging, and my brother tag teaming to introduce them to firefly :)

Artcat81, cool new recruiting technique. I hope it works.

I am at this time attempting to convert a new recruit myself. I’ve struck up a friendship with a fellow employee down at where I work and come to find out he says he’s a Si/Fi, Battlestar Galactica fan. He said he really enjoys watching Si/Fi but his wife hates it. I asked if he had ever seen or heard of Firefly and his response was ‘No”. I brought him my loaner copy of the series yesterday and asked him to give it a try and to tell me what he thinks. I’m eager to get his feedback and though I ready don’t want to convert him from Battle-Galact, I sure wouldn’t mind if he soon asked where he could get a brown coat…lol

Good luck on that, I converted a BSG'r at work myself, BSG is still first in his heart, but his coat is definately brown :)
