(Forgive me, this has probably been covered before)

You Know You've Been Watching Too Much Firefly When....(and of course, there really is *no* "too much" when it comes to Firefly!)

Have any sightings? Hear anything that made you think of FF? Etc.

When your boss at work (who saw "one or two of the episodes on TV" but still REFUSES to borrow your Firefly DVDs [even tho in most other ways he's perfectly normal]) knows that when you make a reference to something he doesn't understand it means it's "a Firefly thingy" (juggling geese, swearing in Mandarin, etc.)

BTW, yes, he knows about the movie. Says that if I buy tickets for him, his wife, and their EIGHT children, he may go see it. I'm starting to save up now......

dbell, you haven't been watching enough Firefly.

But to satisfy your curiosity, that is what the Chinese on one of Jayne's shirts (the one with the number 28 on it) translates as, and I would assume it is a sports team of some sort.

What is this "too much firefly" of which you speak? This combination of words makes no logical sense. Is it in a language other than English?

ANGELDOVE

When after finally converting your friends to watching the show, you continually ask them to listen to the commentary, and they don't, and you ask, and they haven't, and you ask again. So then you decide, they like Joss Whedon right? They liked Firefly, and all of your conversations then become, when are we going to watch that episode of Buffy you promised we'd watch, that Emmy nominated one? and they keep putting you off, and you keep asking, then you casually throw in that on TNT, the Angel repeats have started over and perhaps they should tape the pilot episode now that they have that stylin new DVR, and when every conversation starts with something concerning Joss Whedon and anything he may have said about anything at all especially info on any of his spectacular shows. Because now my God is Joss Whedon. Seriously, after reading this, I'm like one of those horrible people who try to convert everyone to their religion or political affiliation! Joss Whedon! how my friends must hate me!

When you miss visiting your friends at Bay Con because you bought the Firefly DVD set, (based on the recommendations and borrowed tapes from one of those very friends) and spend all weekend watching them. Instead of going to the con.

When you decide to set up a Firefly RPG with your friends, (whom you missed) and ask for web resources to flesh out the game.

You know your friend has watched too much Firefly when this is an acceptable excuse for blowing them off :)

Your friend, in response to your request, send you about 20 links to Firefly and RPG that are applicable, within about an hour.

Me, I was the friend who loaned the tapes, went to Bay Con and sent the RPG links. I have converted another one!

I resemble that remark! haa haa. However, when ever the issue of juggling geese ( gosslings, actually ) comes up, I can't help but think of Steve Martin in The Jerk and the bit about cat juggling..." mewwww! meeeoow! ". Sorry.

Add "Shiny!" to the list, or the way of speaking, you know, dropping out words, and suffixes where they're not needed etc.

Yes, yes, exactly ;)

I was watching Planet's Funniest Animals last night, and before they went to commercial, they were showing a clip of a penguin swimming around in the water, chasing someone's hand-shadows. The voice-over guy said "shadow puppets". It was a joyous occasion!

That really depends on your definition of 'normal' don't it?

For example; I live with 2 women. One is an artist, working in sculpture. performance, photography and allsorts. The other is a scientist, an expert on brain chemistry and interested in a bunch of other fields. I am a professional occult expert with a strong interest in heresies of all kinds.
We don't give 'cocktail parties'... but conversation at the parties we do have may very well take in more than a few scientific theses, Nobel or not (and BTW the Nobel selection process has as much to do with the actual merit of the work on display as the Oscars do...). This would be normal conversation for our crowd - honest!

(Silly me, I had this odd idea that people interested in a science fiction show might possibly have an interest in, oh I dunno, some *science* once in a while?)

When you go to see Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, and there's an overhead shot of the Hogwarts Express and you expect Jayne to lower himself onto it...and in the next scene Ron is wearing a knit hat with earflaps and you expect there to be a payoff of some sort.

LOL - yes - This is exactly what I was about to mention on here!
Saw Ron in that hat - and immediatley started to compare it to Jayne's!
(It was rather better knitted, but then, Mrs Weasley does use magic to help....)

i have two:

1) when you start cursing in mandarin at work

2) when your friends call and ask if you want to go out and you say no and they automatically say "Not everything revolves around Joss Whedon!" If they're my friends they will assume everything you say (band practice, dinner with the family, work) is code for "watching some Joss show"

When your U2 t-shirts sit on the shelf collecting dust, But your firefly T-shirt is washed at least twice a week, so you can wear it more than once a week. Not only that you buy your spouse a similar (but not the same)Firefly shirt just so you can do that cute matching thing she loves so much. Furthermore, you go to www.cafepress.com
Especially frequently

just to see if any new designs have been made.

BROWNCOAT1

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

-When you have 2 Blue Sun T-shirts that you wear all the time.

-When you bought a brown western duster similar to Mal's because it looks so cool.

-When you have a friend make you a replica of Mal's gun for your Browncoat costume for Cons.

-When you quote Firefly all the time.

-When terms and Chinese phrases from the show become part of you daily vocabulary without you noticing.

-When you have Blue Sun labels made up to put on wine bottles in your cupboard.

-When you and three of your converts sit around on Saturday nights watching Firefly or playing your own version of a Firefly RPG.

-When you can recite the lines from each episode word for word and everyone else in the room is looking at you funny.
