Is it true that the gag reel is alot shorter than the original? I bought mine today at Suncoast (for the "special price"), but haven't had a chance to see them yet. Why would the gag reel be cut, there should be plenty of space on a DVD.

SUCCATASH

My guess is budget, licensing issues (especially with the Love Boat scene?) and appropriateness that protects the integrity of the actors and businesses involved. But my explanation is not a very good one.

Yep the gag reel on the DVDs is only a couple of minutes long.

Bummer. I was looking forward to seeing it finally. (my poor soul is still on dial-up)

Succatash's reason sounds good to me.

Great. And I got rid of the gag reel that was on the net a few months ago.

Is the full length one still available on the net? There's a four-part version here http://versaphile.com/download/firefly.html but I seem to remember there was a single file version at some point, wasn't there?

Good. Thanks for the update.

I would guess it's do to the extended use of the Love Boat screenshot and theme, the use of which would cost money. In all honesty, if that's all they cut I'm okay with it, since I never found that part as funny as the cast and crew goofing around.

Just tell me "How'd you like a bite of this green apple, America?" is still there. I've yet to get my copy (EFF MY DISTRIBUTOR. You heard me.)

yes, the green apple line is still there, but they play it over the shot of Mal standing there nekkid, so you don't get to see the cute expression Nathan makes as he says it. I'm bummed about the much-shortened gag reel too, but luckily I still have the whole thing on cd.

She's terse. I can be terse. Once in flight school, I was laconic.

THis gag reel sounds awesome and i am insane with jealousy that i can't see the whole thing. I went to the site to see the whole gag reel but my computer is somehow deficient (much like it's owner i am afraid to say) so it won't play and i am not sure which buttons to push so that it will be accessible. Can the instructions to play the gag reel be dumbed down enough so that even i could play it?

LUNATIKAT

Dear Optimus1998,
Hi!, I'd very much like to get the full gag reel, thank you! Where do I go? What do I do? (I am, by the way, not very computer/internet savvy, though not completely clueless.)
Also, I don't know much netiquette, so I hope I'm not breaking some kind of custom, but my name is Kat Krischild and I live in Berkeley California (phone number in the local directory). I have the DVDs and my equally Browncoated roommates and I would love to meet some more Berkeley Browncoats! Feel free to call me in the world or write me on the net at lunatikat@hotmail.com
As to the movie, I cannot be discouraged at this stage. It is just too damn soon to worry. Look at how long we waited for the return of Star Trek. If we have to, we'll just raise the money ourselves. Anybody out there know how to set up a limited investment company or whatever the right name for such would be? (Obviously NOT me.) And I wouldn't be investing just because I am completely out of my mind in love with Firefly, but honestly, don't YOU think it would make money? I just keep thinking, "What if I had had money to invest in the Trek franchise back when it was initially cancelled?"
Sympathise with the Browncoat having finals. I'm on the other side, writing and giving finals this week, but watched "Ariel" last night anyway. Could not wait til the weekend. I'M SO HAPPEEEEEEE, love you all.

Dear folks,
Meant to encourage any Berkeley California folk or Bay Area folk in particular, not only Mr.1998, to feel free to contact me. Us actually, there are about eight of us that I know.

At least they didn't censor the cussing in the gag reel (or anywhere else on the DVD, like in the interviews/featurettes). That surprised me. This is a Joss Whedon series, and with the misconception among some that his series are aimed at the younger crowd, I thought that Fox Home Entertainment would've made a big deal about it. Thankfully, they treated the viewers with more respect (or were consistent in attitude by just not caring enough about the series to bother editing or bleeping).

Succatash is probably dead on. I'm sure licensing the "Love Boat" theme was an expense they didn't want. Unfortunately, some other stuff from the original gag reel was cut as well, such as the 360 shot from "The Message," where Nathan Fillion keeps popping up all over the place. That originally had me in stitches, so I'm sad to see that go.

Well, Alan Tudyk and Jewel Staite bring up the scene in their commentary on The Message, so at least it hasn't been forgotten entirely :)

I think The Love Boat was one issue, sure, but that doesn't explain the rest. I mean, c'mon! Alan's babbling from Bushwacked? "There is no place on that woman I would not put my tounge!"
