Ok, I came back here after along abcence.

So, I am here kinda, sorta, looking for advice.

I have had this strange story idea floading around in my head for about a year now. It won't go away. It has nothing to do with Firefly. But I am not a write and have never done any creative writing...ever. I simply don't know anything about how I might "orgainize" this jumbled mess in my head. I have no idea what I might do after that but as I said..it has been bouncing around in my head for almost a year. I would like to put some of it on paper.

Not really looking for exactly how to write a story. More like how to organize ideas for a story.

I'm not the most organized person (in pretty much anything....) so what I do is just start writing. I know books and "writer extrordainaires" tell you to do Venn diagrams and other notations, but I find it helps to just write something out, whether it be just the idea over and over, or trying to actually form the story. Just get it all down then go back and shape it up.

That's just my 2cents. Hope it helps.

If you get any ideas for Firefly, looking forward to reading them.

Cheers,

COPILOT

I don't share a lot of my stories so I guess my advice doesn't carry much weight. This is what works for me. Double space everything then print out a copy and rewrite things between the lines. Don't worry every first draft is absolute crap! As are most second and third drafts. Rework you paragraphs on paper type them out when you're done. Save differnt ideas in different files you can cut and paste where appropiate later. I guess what I'm trying to say is get everything out before you start worring about grammer spelling or puncuation.

An I carried such a torch

Hey, DFergATL! Congrats on the idea! I know what its like to have something going all through your head and not going away. Typically, its the best ideas that are the most persistent.

About organisation...I like to write up little bios for the characters, so that I get them down in my head. Write what they look like, how they speak, how they move, their history, like and dislikes. It comes in handy later if you're trying to figrue out how they would react in a given situation. You might try making charts (as dorky as that sounds), it can really help you get the big picture- how events are related, how characters are connected, that sort of thing. Timelines work too, they help you figure out what's gonna happen and when.

If you suddenly get an idea, just write it down as soon as you can, even if its just a phrase or so on a Stickynote at work...it'll help you to remember them. And when you have time, go back and read your "notes" and try and fit them in. Don't be afraid to take stuff out and mix it baout, either- its your story and you can do what you want with it (which is one of the great thing's about creative writing).

But sometimes its a lot of fun just to sit down and see what comes out of your head. Some of my best writing has come from doing that and you could be surprised at what comes out!

Hope all of that helped and Good Luck!

Mine is an evil sugar high laugh! Bwahahahaha!

Thanks for everyones suggestions. Even just coming here and finaly saying something has helped me some.

He is where I am.

I have a setting. Different "locatations" Some general ideas of events or possible events. An idea of they the Political Landscape of this particular verse looks and acts like. The types of characters, but no specific ones. What general "mood" of the thing might be.

For me this whole thing has been more or less a reoccuring daydream. But it keeps coming back with different ideas and such.

I don't belive that I would ever be the one to actually write anything. So, here is what I think I will TRY to do.

Write down what I do have. Take a look at it and if I DON"T think "This is the stupidist thing I have ever seen." then I will probably contact one of the fanfic writers who's work I have enjoyed. Talk it over with them and see what they think, what their ideas are and then maybe have them write a story around my ideas.

Who knows.. but lately it has just been driving me nuts. Well more nuts than I am normally.
