ALLHAILJOSSWHEDON

Hello fellow browncoats. Just thought I'd properly introduce myself. I'm from that little archipelago in southeast asia, the Philippines.

I'm a recent convert(just last week). I first found Firefly when I was browsing through sci-fi.com a few weeks back. First thought that came to my mind was that this show must have really sucked for it to be cancelled halfway through its first season and sci-fi's description of it made it seem uninteresting to me so I ignored it.

It seems I was foolish to resist the inevitable as a couple of weeks later, a friend lent me a copy of Serenity. I was bored so I watched it. An hour and a half passed and I sat on my couch stunned into silence as the credits rolled in. After I got my voice back(it took most of an hour), I immediately went out again to look for the series itself.

And now here I am, still hungry for more. Rewatching the movie and the whole series tides me over somewhat but I still can't get over the fact that this show got cancelled and I probably never will, unless the show comes back on, of course.

I feel like pressing my thumbs on someone's throat right now. If there's anything I can do to help bring back Firefly(like tying-up some network executives and holding them over a volcano) please let me know.

Buy more copies (the australian edition with the metallic case comes to mind).

Spread the word.

Force more people to buy the movie.
(yes I did say FORCE).

Support the movies featuring our beloved actors (this would be a double edged weapon actually, as success may even push actors to "forget" their origins... but I have a feeling Firefly actors are REALLY tied to their roles).

Do whatever else comes to your mind to support the franchise ;)
It's the only thing we can do, really.

It sucks real bad and I know exactly how you feel. I guess it was just too original and good for the idiots at the network to comprehend. It suffered a great deal from bad marketing, I hadnt even heard of it until the movie came out. Bear in mind the kind of people you are dealing with. An example can be found in the cancellation of Futurama, a show that in my opinion anyway was as good as the Simpsons. It was canned because some interbred exec (arent they all?) thought "Its a cartoon but not the Simpsons therefore bad" Thats the depth of thought these people have so a show like Firefly was pretty much doomed from the start. Take a look at how many people have visited this site since it started. I am just waiting for the rallying call cos I want that show back. you guys do have a plan, right?

Same happened to me only watched the film because i was bored and i heard a mate on about it. Didnt even know about the series until a few weeks ago and i still cant get my head around why it was cancelled. But unitl it comes back on im just going to have to watch the series over and over again i suppose.

get a hold of the comics, because we'll be getting more of those soon (the current comic/graphic novel covers the period after Firefly and before Serenity)

and we WILL get our sequel...it'll just take a while!

Yup, rage seems to be the general reaction to finding out that you've just watched all there currently is of the Best Damn Show in the 'verse ;p Good to have you aboard, allhailjosswhedon.

Keep the faith, spread the word, and don't forget to hold the line till Mal gets back.

Thanks for the warm welcome.I'm glad there are a lot of us Browncoats. There might be a chance for a continuation of the series after all. They can't ignore us all forever. Especially since we seem to be steadily growing in number.

Yep, seems to me that this place is just getting bigger and bigger.
There are tens of thousands of us, apparently. (According to Doncoat's last count).

Show people where you are how great this show is.
And let me know if you ever find a really hot volcano. I'll bring the beer and execs.

Welcome, Allhail!

Read around the message board here and you'll find that you're very much not alone. The feelings are the same whether you saw the show right from its doomed broadcast days or just picked it up last week - wonder, then grief, then rage. Then, maybe, activism.

I still wonder just what the hell Fox was thinking back then. They were on the absolute crest of the reality-TV craze, madly hurling all their eggs in that basket, just before they lost a tenth of their viewers over it (see this thread from early '05:
http://fireflyfans.net/thread.asp?b=2&t=8623 - it also has my introductory rant which is much like yours. )
