Not a overly important question, but one I just thought of while re-watching the DVD. Seems most movies will put out the various trailers, I wonder why they were left off this one. Was it merely a matter of space?

Not a huge loss.

If trailers were in the extras, where I could ignore them, fine.

However they usually infest the start, and often have protection on them so that you can't skip or fast-forward them have to sit through the dross whether you like it or not. And I don't.

And I'd really object to a trailer of the main feature just before the real thing. Spoilerific or what?

And anyway, if I've actually gone out and put down Lorne Greene on the thing, I'm probably the wrong person on whom advertising dollars should be spent in exhorting me to er... buy it.

Leading on from which, trailing and advertising is something Serenity and Firefly got very seriously short-changed on.

Viral marketing my arse. Seems like their particular Serenivirus was only compatible with Homo Browncoatiens. They should have given it to the CIA to pep up its virulence. A cross-strain with Bird flu, and a spot of GM to help with the human hosts would have done the trick.

I like second run DVDs, which, apart from being cheaper, seem more "no-frills" and you can get to the main event quicker.

i think you misunderstand the question:

they seem to be asking why the serenity trailer is nowhere to be found in the DVD box set of the series.

as to answering the question: i have no idea. perhaps the box set was released before they had working trailers for the movie, or before the movie had even been concieved at that point (none of the interviews, either, mention anything about the movie, and i think there was one interview with joss on the DVD box set where he still seemed hopeful that a movie would be made at all)

I also noticed the lack of trailers. The Serenity DVD looks to me to have been a little rushed. The menus on most of my other DVDs are a little more creative and engaging. (That said, I bought 2 copies so far.) Universal probably figured out that Browncoats will pay more for an expanded DVD later. If so, I hope they include theatrical trailers and TV spots. (Just in case they don't, I got QuickTime pro and saved the high-def trailers from the Apple site to my desktop.)

Actually, I meant why there were no movie trailer clips in the SERENITY DVD, not the FIREFLY box set. I've been doing the DVD rentals by mail, and have noticed that most movies contain the various trailers and promos that were produced. Just wondering why that wasn't the case here.

Yeah, I too wondered why there was no trailer for the BDM included on the DVD.

I had never heard of Serenity or Firefly, and was surfin the net looking for Buffy stuff when I came across a link to it. I bit. The rest, as they say, is history.

So since this trailer caused me to rush out and buy the Firefly set, and subsequently become obsessed with the verse, I'd really like for it, and any other trailers for the BDM to be there. Cheapskate Universal purple-bellies.

I too was rather surprised that the dvd included none of the Serenity theatrical trailers or TV spots; however, since it also lacked the usual 5-6 front-loaded trailers most commercial release disks are burdened with these days, I don't feel particularly driven to complain. Shoot, I waited twenty years for a decent collector's edition of Buckaroo Banzai -- and they forgot to include the theatrical trailer on that one too!

I predict, given the way the slow-but-steady groundswell that is Firefly/Serenity grows, sooner or later Universal will release a "Special Edition" two-disk set with all the bells, whistles, and chrome-plated coffee-grinders we could want. Hell, they've got Firefly episodes on Pay-Per-View right now. Weird but wonderful.

Somebody on another thread got it right. Serenity/Firefly isn't Star Trek, or Star Wars -- it's The Little Engine That Could.
