This is getting serious. Because of Firefly I'm thinking of studying Mandarin. What good will that be when no one around me speaks Mandarin? Well, by the time the unification war starts I should be fluent. It may take that long.

So many worlds. So little time.

Hey, I'm learning Mandarin. University level Mandarin is hard *cries softly* Well... beginners university level Mandarin. Seriously. She expects me to know what different characters are, and it's not like I can look them up in the dictionary *blinks*

I'm learning Mandarin as well! Not because of Firefly though -- most of my family can speak it and I thought it was high time I learned as well and I wanted to be able to read.

I agree on learning characters without any previous experience being hard (though I wish we were learning traditional instead of simplified for various reasons), fortunately I did know a little chinese beforehand so that made it a lot easier.

Having family around that speaks Mandarin is certainly a motivation and a help.

So many worlds. So little time.
