I use to love Star Trek.
Love Star Trek.
Oh how the next generation crew brought up such inspiration and hope, fear and doubts.
That was 7 years ago.

Bare with me here...there should be some kinda point.

Deep space Nine was another leap in sci-fi television. The concepts/conflicts of war and politics were truly brought to surface with characters that seemed even more likeable then TNG. Then Voyager came along.....the idea was cool, the concept was intriguing, but there was just something missing. It sucked. But it was the only withstanding sci-fi show out there.(I've never watched Babylon 5 or Earth:final conflict so whatever) Then came the movies and so on and so on. First Contact rocked, insurrection was tedious. And then suddenly the Star Trek we knew was gone, and in came Enterprise. Which by all means is an okay show, I think better than voyager (sorta). I was thinking, hey... is this all that sci-fi TV has to offer?

Then I found out about "Farscape"
Which is the best sci-fi show out there next to "Firefly". There were no rules in these shows. anything goes. People died, People cried, People fried and People were.....not friendly.
Farscape is a show that "works" with aliens
Firefly is a show that "works" without.

I don't know about all of you, but I simply can't go back to the star trek world anymore. Star Trek: Nemesis to me was suppose to be a refreshing look back at what was, but after watching "The TWO F's" I found it bland and tidy.
What's annoying is that both series are going cancelled. Let's take a look at the characters for a sec...

Who would win.

Cpt. Archer vs Cpt. Reynolds?

Cpt Reynolds of course.

Cpt. Archer vs. Cmd. Crichton?

Crichton of course.

Nowadays STAR TREK is for sissies!!!

Dare I say it...
Dudes need soap operas too
Our soap operas need killing and betrayal and humping and explosions.

STAR TREK doesn't portray these things.
It tries to, but those icky "morals" get in the way. Sure they got Hot Chicks, but do they use'em?

IF "THE TWO F'S" get cancelled, then STAR TREK better wise up. Take a cue from these shows. SCREW THINGS UP A LITTLE!!!

Star Trek, Firefly and Farscape are all in the same boat. We're all sci-fi, but it sucks when it's the bad ones that come out on top to represent the "genre".

Same here. I discovered Joss Whedon shows about a year ago, and they ruined me for Star Trek - and most other TV for that matter.

Firefly is the best of them. Unfortunately, quality doesn't equal ratings (the inverse is true as well).

HJERMSTED

I am unable to enjoy shows like Enterprise anymore. Whedon has set the bar out of this show's reach. In fact, Berman and Co. seem quite comfy in their sinking ship and aren't even reaching for the bar any longer.

Enterprise isn't an adult show in my mind. There are no real risks being taken with the characters and therefore no plot tension whatsoever. We know all the characters will survive no matter what happens. I feel Enterprise is so safe that it could easily run along side Saturday morning fare without ruffling any feathers.

I haven't watched Farscape yet, but am looking forward to doing so when I am able to sit down and watch all the episodes in a row without commercials.

So here are my top five hour long dramas:

1 Firefly, Buffy, Angel
4 Alias
5 24

Notice the three way tie for first. I love those three Whedon shows. And though Alias and 24 are fun shows in their own right, they just don't have the same other worldly magic of Firefly, Buffy, and Angel... there is an ocean of difference between first place and fourth.

I never go on-line to discuss episodes of 24 or Alias. Nor have I done so for anything Star Trek, or Star Wars. To me that's a big indicator of my enjoyment level of an entertainment.

I don't know why everybody thinks Voyager sucked that much. I seen that statement a lot. To me, it wasn't bad (I like the doctor character; he got to do everything). Between Voyager and Enterprise...right now Voyager. Enterprise is so predictable and the storylines are weak (last week's "The Catwalk" episode, I thought it was the best so far...for Enterprise that is). The whole show is so tame. DS9 was good, especially the last couple of seasons. TNG the TV show has its own place (the movies are dead); and of course, to me, nothing beats the original -- good written stories.

I don't watch the other sci-fi shows (just seen bits and pieces like Andromedia, Farscape, Earth: Final Conflict). The only show that got me as excited to watch was (or should I still say IS) FIREFLY!

I started with Jaynestown, but the following episodes blew me away. I am so disappointed over FOX's decision.

I really like this show and reading all your posts. This is the first message board I joined for any TV show.
