Although DragonCon STILL haven't removed Joss's name from their website (a full month, nearly, since Joss personally started telling people online he wasn't going to D*C and was never asked), just to make sure people are aware he isn't going. He has plans.

He's posted this on the Universal Serenity website under General Discussion:

"
Hi again. I got wind of this rumor that there are peeps still saying I'm due to show at DragonCon, or that they've spoken to the Uni peeps or my one peep, I'm not sure but I think Uni's starting to feel bad, like y'all will think they're reneging on something. It's all very murky. So just to clarify:

Nobody at Uni who is working this movie got contacted and nobody ever promised my presence. This is, I'm sure, a tempest in a teapot, but I don't want them taking heat. As I'm sure you all know, I'd love to go to DragonCon but my many other commitments (including the one made in front of my family and friends and a Justice of the Peace) make it impossible to attend, impossible, why it would bend the very laws of physics, man! Sorry.

I will however be at FerretCon. It's smaller than DragonCon, but feisty when it's cornered.

Also, Nathan has promised to make up for my lack of presence by tattooing the name of every fan he meets on his chest. This is totally true and I checked with Nathan so don't let him play all ignorant.

Sorry for all the confusion and even more for the boring post. I'll leave you with a few more rejected tag-lines for the Serenity one-sheet...

"To Infinity... and then it's a left, half a block, house with the blue trim."

"Serenity. Like glass in a bag."

"Meet Malcolm Reynolds. He hates Scottish People." (I totally lobbied against that one.)

"They're outnumbered, outgunned, and have no skills... Wow, they're gonna DIE!"

"If you loved "Stealth" or "the Island".... um, actually never mind. It's not important."

"Serenity. The most exciting film since D.W Griffifth's's private dirty zoetropes (which were AWESOME.)"

"This Fall, Stop and Smell the Serenity."

I know. Gems.

Farewell, interlopers! -j.
"

Could somebody who knows Dragon Con people please tell them to take Joss' name off the site? He isn't going. Period. Why they continue to advertise him I don't know, it's not going to do their reputation any good. If they turn around and say he had to pull out due to work commitments they will need a kick in the balls as that simply isn't true.

EMBERS

someone at Dragoncon had put up an apology and regrets about Joss not coming a week or two ago,
but I don't know where to find it on their site.
Evidently they haven't fixed their front page though.
I would totally sign up for Ferretcon

and I loved the tag line: "They're outnumbered, outgunned, and have no skills... Wow, they're gonna DIE!"

FerretCon. *Can't help but giggle*

It sucks that Joss won't make it to Dragon*Con. I knew tons of fans were looking forward to it...but, hey...at least most of the cast is gonna be there, right? That's nothing to scoff at. (And, hey! You can get your name tattooed on Nathan Fillion's chest!)

i haven't gotten any progrma materials on scheduling and stuff-- and i've never been to D*C before. does anyone know what the deal is with meeting the cast and getting autographs? is there a specific day and time that they will only be available? should i schedule half a day or a whole day to queue? and where will they be?

Dragoncon has an area they call "The Walk of Fame" where all of the guests go to sign autographs. In past years it has been located in the back of the dealer's room where all of the comic book dealers and such set up to sell their stuff. They've got some big guests coming, so I wouldn't be surprised if they decided to move it to a larger area, but regardless, it will be somewhere that is easy to access. How long each person spends in the walk of fame is up to them... Dragoncon doesn't dictate that. But, since virtually none of the guests actually get paid to be there, they make their money for the weekend by charging $25 or so for their autograph. So, if they wanna make money, they go to the walk of fame a lot.

Last year Nathan, Jewel, and Adam were in the Walk of Fame on Fri, and after Adam had to leave the Con Sat (film commitment), Nathan and Jewel were there on Sat and Sun, and I think I remember seeing Jewel there on Monday. I'm not sure how the lines will be this year, but last year I never saw a line of more than 5 or 10 people with each of the BDHs. There may have been times with longer lines, but I doubt it. Having said that, two years ago when James Marsters was there, the line went out of the dealers room, out of the hotel, and down the street... I believe I heard it was a couple of hours long.

So, my advice would be to check out the Walk of Fame on Friday and see what the lines look like. If there are a couple thousand people getting the autographs of the BDHs, then you'll wanna set aside some extra time on Sat or Sun. If there isn't a huge line, then get in it and knock out your autographs early. As to when exactly they'll be there on Fri... DragonCon usually posts a schedule of when people have let them know that they'll be there, but it's up to the person to actually show. And last year, the three BDHs were good about keeping their scheduled times-- and they were great about actually having conversations with people and just being overall nice about everything, unlike some people (David Carradine in specific was a total ass).

SAVAGE

Just to clarify a couple of things...

The "regret to inform that Joss wasn't coming" was a mistaken announcement that the webmaster for the program track sponsoring Serenity/Firefly stuff put up directly after the Whedonesque controversy. D*C has gotten NO valid correspondence saying Joss is not attending, and they DO have a contract for his appearance.

Secondly, I know the BDHs had a few significant lines toward the end of the weekend that I saw, so I would recommened checking early & often around their alloted times. There is going to be a MUCH bigger Firefly/Serenity contingent there this year, and remember, there are usually several opportunities to catch people on the Walk of Fame, so try to pick a time when you'll be able to wait if you need to.

And for my last bit of babbling... I'm starting to doubt the validity of these posts by Joss because it just plain makes NO sense to me that he can spend all this time stirring up the pot on the net but can't be bothered to put in one lil call to D*C if he really isn't coming, which is all that he has to do - as both Summer & Sean did and now Nathan as well apparently.

There is NO reason for D*C to state his appearance if he's not coming because the con is just plain too big to be reliant on one guest for #s. Yes, people are disappointed with cancellations, but D*C isn't going to lose a significant amount of memberships over it.

As much as we'd like to hope Joss's security is protected, I don't see how he could be THAT above getting hacked, and I wouldn't put it past some of the folks out there with this ability having a really good laugh right now. And if he IS just not getting in touch with D*C for whatever reason, then I'm extremely disappointed that he's chosen this method of communication instead.
