OK, I was just watching last weeks Stargate SG-1(DVR's are such wonderful devices ). When they went off planet, they had to wear something to fit in. Maybe I'm crazy for thinking this but the outfits that Ben Browder and Michael Shanks characters wore look a lot like Mal's.

I'm not talking exactly here, so don't be nitpicking all the minor lil differences. But when you just look at them in general....they look similar.

SG-1 had them a lot lighter colors but they still had a long trench coat, tight pants, belt and gun holster that look like how Mal wore it. Maybe I'm the only crazy person who saw the outfits and thought the same thing....

I had a friend of mine say the same thing. I was told this was a rather sad episode. This was from a die-hard SG-1 fan. She said the long coats & holsters looked a bit to familiar.

You're not going crazy. I noticed it. And others on the 'versal board mentioned it, too. Actually, the whole episdode made me think of Firefly. Vala was very Saffron-like. The way she was waiting in Daniel's room, and the way she found her long lost "lover" that she had stolen from and abandoned. There were a bunch of other things that I'm not remembering now. The lizard-aliens kept talking about "reputation" for one, plus the whole idea of bounty hunters and stealing things. If I'm not mistaken, wasn't the useless ship part a "compressor" something? You know, like Kaylee's "compressor coil"?

I was soooo disappointed in last weeks episode that I spent half the time talking. It would have made it more interesting to compare it to FF. I vaguely remember all those things and, yea, I see it now.
The show remined me of that M*A*S*H episode where Halkeye had to keep making a chain of deals to get something he needed. I kept thinking through the whole show that they should take a lesson from M*A*S*H on how to bow out gracefully; that is if the rest of the shows are going to keep this up.

No, it's shiny! I like to meet new people; they've all got stories.

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

LOL!

Here I thought I would be the only one that would have noticed the similarity in the plot of the SG1 episode & the episode of M*A*S*H where Hawkeye was having to get all these different items for different people just to get a new pair of boots. I was thinking as I watched the episode how the writers must have watched that episode of M*A*S*H & decided it would be a great idea for an SG episode.

You are not the only one that thought that the costumes the SG cast wore were very familiar Aoman14. I instantly thought of the uniforms that Mal & Zoe wore in the pilot "Serenity" during the Battle of Serenity Valley. Wonder if they were rented from the same costume company.

I thought it was cool. sort of a little nod to how cool firefly & mash was - People are a bit unhappy with SG1 right now, but they have to realise that the writers realised that yet another goa`uld would be boring. And that the new goa`uld less galaxy would be radically different now... and they are showing us that.

That ain't no shepard...

Oh, I was just focused on the fact that Ben was in leather pants again. And a black shirt, even if it wasn't a t-shirt. My mind was going Farscape, but now that you mention it I see the Firefly.

THAT's where that came from! Sheesh! I knew the storyline was familiar.

As to the costume issue, I was thinking they were familiar, only I had FarScape in mind. Ben Browder could have just stepped off the FarScape set and onto Firefly... I mean Stargate in that get up. There was such a western *FLAIR* to those coats that I'm wondering if they aren't tipping their hats, as it were, to Firefly.

Vala is also a cross between Firefly and FarScape - like the writers took a little of Saffron and a little of Chiana and put them in a centrafuge together with some black hair dye and *POOF* out came Vala.

They say imitation is the purest form of flattery.

ya, I really like this season of SG-1! The old story line was a bit over done, and this new one is great! And I love the new characters, its cool to kinda reinvent the show after so long.

I have to agree that I'm liking this season. I'm also a die hard fan, and though there were some disappointments this year (farewell, RDA), so far I've not been disappointed over all.

I never watched Farscape, but I already adore Ben Browder's character, Cameron Mitchell (can we say, hello eye candy?! ), and I don't think I've laughed so hard as when Vala is around, especially with Daniel. Just the things she says are hilarious (ie, "I haven't been this disappointed since Daniel and I had sex") - pure gold!

Plus, does it need said that when creators go to recreate a show, the plot usually has a slow beginning? If we want 8 more fabulous years of Stargate (or a few more, anyway), we need to let them reinvent and wow us. I'm open to it - I'm ready. Surprise me.

Just my opinion.

I instantly started laughing at their outfits. Having just finished watching Firefly in its sci fi slot, made it hard not to see that westernish gear in a Firefly light. But I also felt how very right it was to see Ben in leather pants again.

INDEED. The man was born to wear leather.

AND, as I have said on the SciFi Sg-1 bboard...those costumes were SG-1 x Farscape + Firefly. ALL in a very VERY good way!
