Actually, I think I change more minds by passively planting seeds than I ever did by yelling at people. The conversation goes like this:

Other person (helps if it's a friend or someone who likes you): "I believe X."

Me: "I understand what you're saying, but have you ever thought Y?"

Other person: "No, you're absolutely wrong about that, X is definately right, and this is why...(blah, blah, blah)."

Me: (First thoughtfully considers the other person's point. Is not rude, and listens.) True, however, have you considered... (blah, blah, blah)?."

Other person: I still think you're wrong.

(Several weeks, or months, or years later, I find that they've come to believe what I believe. Planted the seed, you see. This has also worked in reverse on me...)
