Anybody here seen Blake's 7? Does Firefly remind you of that shipload of misfits? I am delighted to see a crew of people who are actually people, not idealized characteristics. No offense to those who like the unnamed space shows. I haven't seen something I like so much since Prey or S:AAB.

Inside every cynic there's an idealist desperately yearning to be let out, and when they are let out they're usually a real pain and cause all sorts of trouble. --Chris Boucher

I've seen Blake's 7. The local public TV station re-runs it constantly. I both like it and dislike it. Likes: complicated characters, good actors (can anybody do a sneer better than Paul Darrow?), lots of moral issues and irony. Dislikes: silly stories, silly weapons, silly women who go into combat in spiked heels. And no science at all. I mean, space is portrayed as a kind of pudding with planets and stars scattered through it like nuts and raisins.

You're right there are similarities between B7 and Firefly. But also differences. And I like Firefly a lot better.

Well sure. B7 ran four seasons starting in the late 1970s, so the special effects were less than stellar, to say the least. And it was the victim of some really silly stories, and of the clothes "fashion" of the times. But I see similarities in the rebellion against tyranny, and the inability of some of the crew to actually get along with one another, and the moral issues. Gonna be an interesting ride.

Gee, I wish my local public TV stations would show B7. It's been many a year, and I'm still missing two or three eps.

Hey, if you want your station to show B7, or anything else, write them a letter, and back it up with a contribution. They do this stuff to raise money anyway.

Yes. It played on PBS a few years back.

The people on Zen where a loose group of convicts and rebels with no cohesion other than convienence. On Serenity, we have a crew and passengers.
