I had to look up the story and make sure it actually happened.

Honestly, until we know Disney has learned some lessons, the fact that this was just shitposting over a stupidly insane coincidence spotted by a random Firefly fan witty enough to make the instant connection is great news for Firefly lovers.

We do not want Disney ruining our show and we're really lucky that it was the Lucasfilm fans that got totally screwed over first. They haven't decided to dig this deep in their bench yet to try to milk Firefly of everything it was worth, and maybe by the time they inevitably do we will have gone back to making movies and TV shows that people actually want to watch.

I guess 230 miles off Bermuda.

The ABC story that second linked disclosed "ABc is owned by Disney"

The Treasure sent out a "small boat" for the rescue. 80 miles of ocean. IIRC, it is 90 miles across the width of Lake Michigan. Also from Cuba to shores of Florida. I don't recall how high on the ship you need to get to see the water surface 80 miles away.

eta: if the ship crowsnest was 1,600 ft, they could see about 51 miles. For 87 miles, about 4,900 ft above sea level is needed.
