I know this question has probably been asked a million times, and the answer hashed over ad nauseum. But I just got into Firefly two weeks ago, and I'm completely hooked now and trying to catch up! So forgive my ignorance.

I see that they're making a movie, Serenity (YAY!), but what's the actual news on what may happen with a TV series if that does well, as I'm sure we're all hoping it will? Has any station expressed interest in maybe picking it up again if the movie takes off? Are the actors interested? Is there even any sort of precedent for this sort of thing?

Just wanted to know if there was anything even sorta concrete floating around out there.

Also, I keep seeing that "most of the actors" have agreed to come back for the movie. Are there any holdouts? And who are they?

Sorry for covering old ground and beating a dead horse!

its a little too soon to tell, but i'm positive all the actors would be more than happy to return to the show, they were all so heart broken when it was cancelled, hell we all were!

America loves a winner!

As for the crew, word is that all are coming back for 'Serenity'. There was some question about Ron Glass, but we've been told that he'll be spreading the good word to all the fuzzy wuzzies in the 'verse come movie time.

And welcome aboard!

In short: there is no news. From a network exec point of view, Firefly was a short-lived show with poor ratings, rather than the incredible, sophisticated-yet-down-to-earth, heart-breaking, uplifting show we all know it to be. There may be a few individual execs out there who are keeping a close eye on it, but I'd bet most tv execs are expecting it to bomb at the box office. (We'll prove them wrong, of course.) So there's no real point to them expressing conditional interest based on movie ticket sales. We'll have to wait for the actual movie to find out anything about its future past that.

As far as precedent goes, Star Trek is the closest thing we have to that. Short lived tv show (although not as short lived as Firefly) with so-so ratings, got made into a series of movies, then brought back years later as another tv series. And another, and another, and another. But it's really pretty rare for any tv series to be made into a movie in the first place. (Of course, Joss has already done the reverse: Buffy was originally a movie that he lost creative control over, then decided to do his way as a tv show.)

The one glimmer of hope is that Universal asked for a rewrite of the original script. (Usually, this would be a bad thing, but bear with me.) The original script was a conclusion to the series, presumably because Joss thought it was his last chance. But Universal wanted something that could be turned into a springboard for sequels or another tv series.
