I purchased the "Serenity" DVD on the second day, and watched it 5 times in 3 days (my record for short-term multiple viewings of anything) -- so, I thoroughly enjoyed it.

I also liked Joss's commentary and the few short extras, etc.

However, I was just watching part of the "LOTR: Return of the King" DVD, and was amazed by the number of extra features on that -- which left me disappointed with the relatively few number of extra features on the "Serenity" DVD.

Granted, the "LOTR: ROTK" DVD probably had a bigger budget than "Serenity" -- nonetheless, how much extra would it have cost to put an actor's commentary on it (like "LOTR: ROTK" did)? I mean, "LOTR: ROTK" had FOUR (count 'em), FOUR commentaries (director's/writer's, actor's, post production, and special effects -- or something like that). It would take 16 hours just to watch the 4 commentaries on "LOTR: ROTK" -- not to mention a myriad of special features.

I'm not complaining about the lack of special features, but why not more commentaries? Wouldn't you just love an actor's commentary to "Serenity" with Nathan, Adam, Alan, Ron, Sean, Summer, Gina, Jewel, Morena, and others? It would surely be the shiniest commentary on DVD.

To be honest, I'd rather see a "Serenity" actor's commentary than Joss's (if I only had a choice to select one).

Although, the "LOTR: ROTK" DVD didn't have a bloopers bit like "Serenity" did. That would've been nice. (Although the actor's commentary was hysterical in several places, and alone worth the price of the DVD.)

"That there? 'Xactly the kind of diversion we coulda' used."
