Howdy all. I'm another Official Board person, but also an occasional lurker here. Like everyone I'm missing our show, so I thought I'd finally play around with my website again after a couple-month hiatus.

On FIREFLY FUNSITE I now have a dozen filk songs and three crossword puzzles. Come on by.

Thanks for asking. I've added pinyin transliterations of the Chinese to the GIF images. Before I just had them in the ALT tags, so I was Netscape-unfriendly.

I'm not sure if there's some subtle meaning to the "Welcome." Literally, it's "welcome" (huan1ying2) plus "arriving" (lai2dao4). I saw it on a lot of Chinese sites when I was hunting for translations.

The "Filk Songs" is "parody lyrics" (da3you2shi1), which also came up a lot on Google searches of Chinese-language sites. There's nothing special about the "crossword puzzle" (zong1heng2zi4mi2, literally "vertical-horizontal character puzzle") or "links" (lian2jie2ou1).

The "fun" of "Funsite" is "entertainment" (yu2le4, also sometimes used for "recreation"). Maybe there's something better.

The "Firefly" (ying2) is the root and combining form of "firefly" (ying2huo3chong2, literally and redundantly "firefly" + "fire" + "bug/worm"). My alias, FFYING2, is FF-class and "firefly."

"Site" (zhan4) is from "website" (wang3zhan4); it seems to be used in Chinese the same as in English.

I've studied a little ABOUT Chinese, but never tried to learn it--until "Firefly."

But I studied Japanese a lot and lived there for a few years, so that helped me look things up.

If any experts see any Chinese on my site that doesn't make sense, please let me know.
