Hi, everyone!

I'm new here, but have been a Whedon fan all through BUFFY and ANGEL. I initially passed on FIREFLY when it seemed to me just another post-apocalyptic-future sci-fi series. When I saw the trailer for SERENITY, I kinda got the impression I was wrong, and after watching the DVD, I realized what an idiot I was!

Just finished watching a couple eps on SCI-FI's marathon (haven't got 'round to buying the series DVD yet!), and I was wondering about the actual chronology/timeline between FIREFLY and SERENITY.
Does SERENITY explain River and her brother joining the crew, then jump ahead to an adventure that takes place after the series ended, or does the entire movie take place before FIREFLY even starts?

If this was asked and answered elsewhere, I apologize.

Also, one quick thought: isn't it kinda mean to bring back everyone for a (hopefully!) new movie franchise, then kill off 2 of the main crew members?

Thanx in advance for any info!

Serenity takes place after the Firefly. River and Simons escape was presumably added to explain things to a new audience.

The whole River being freed by Simon bit is the Operative watching footage from the security camera hologram archives, so the whole film takes place after the series. There's no 'jumping' as such.

After watching Serenity first, then getting hooked on the series (need more, must have more) I found that the timeline is handled perfectly. As for the "spoiler" question, I'm sure there are many ways to bring everyone back and have the timeline still work. WHEN it happens, trust in Master Joss...

Cool, thanks for the help! I guess if I'd watched the series initially, I wouldn't be confused about the timeline!

Thanks again
