Silly question, but I've been awake all night, so forgive me....

If we do assume that Book was an operative in his younger days, and then we have this new fellow.... are we to assume that all operatives are handsome young black men? Are any of other races? Are any women?

It's too small a sample to tell for sure, but it may hint at a pattern. I'm guessing the operatives can be anybody.

Besides, as you say we don't know for sure Book was an operative (though it seems very possible). He may have been a New York City policeman with ambitions of becoming an author. :)
