At the very least they are a food company that sells cola and canned goods. The speculation is they are a multi-planet corporation that has many interests. One of the interests may be scientific research on unwilling subjects (River). Also that blue hands = blue sun operatives.

Thank you. May I ask where you got this? Was this in an episode and I missed it? Because I really don't remember hearing about them, but all of a sudden, there's stuff named after it on a bunch of Firefly sites, and the logo was apparently on the crybaby in the pilot (according to televisionwithoutpity.com's recaps). I get what you said about the blue hands, but... where was that connection? I feel so out of the loop.

Several people online noticed that when River was peeling labels off cans, they were Blue Sun labels and that when she slashed Jayne's shirt, she stabbed through the Blue Sun logo. Writer Jose Molina [have I got that right?] then went on line and said that fans were right, Blue Sun had a major connection to River's story. Then we all started noticing that there are Blue Sun signs everywhere in the set design.
