The other night as I watched the credits roll on "Objects in Space," I had a little vision. It wasn't a nice vision. It was a mean, vengeful vision. It was a vision of Firefly picking up half a dozen Emmy nominations despite its early demise.

Yeah, yeah, genre shows never win and all that. Firefly is twice accursed, being that it's clearly a genre show and yet decidedly unclear about which genre that is, exactly. But come on, if 24 can win a writing award, surely somebody could throw a nod to "Objects in Space."

The way I see it, Firefly really deserves nomination in these categories: writing for "Objects in Space," direction for "Out of Gas," art direction (single camera) for "Serenity," cinematography (single camera) for "Objects in Space," costumes for "Shindig," and special visual effects for "Serenity."

It's too bad they don't give out acting awards for individual performances-- I know there's an "individual performance" category, but that's not the same thing. I think Summer Glau deserves a nod for "Safe," and maybe Adam Baldwin for "Ariel."

See, it's not so much about the recognition any more. It's about making the Powers that Be at Fox feel really, really bad.

(Bitter? Yeah. I'll get over it soon enough... but not today.)

Don't Emmy nominations cost a fortune to push through? If the show doesn't have a network behind it, I can't see Emmy nominations happening anytime soon...

Anyway - winning awards isn't enough to make money. The only way to make the Fox executives feel bad about this would be for the show to be picked up by another network... and then to become a real success, and make a fortune.

Sounds unlikely? Maybe, but we can hope. And join the postcard writing campaigns :-)
