It apears that none of the videos are available for download anymore. Does anyone know what the story is? I was hoping to get the High Quality version once the demand dropped off. Can sombody provide a Bittorrent link for it?

I am in the midst of downloading it now, so I think it is still available. DO you have bittorrent itself? And the .zip file that triggers the download? I don't have the link, but I have the .zip files, and worst comes to worst, could send you the files as attachments--they're plenty small. Just shoot me an email at lee@leeheller.net if you need 'em.

I have torrents for the reduced resolution (but still very good) videos at http://stuff.botched.info but I don't have the extra high res ones.

If anyone has the big ones and wants to make a torrent and seed them, I'll run the tracker and keep seeding them afterwards for a while. Let me know

It looks like the links for the high quality version (the two 500mb files) have gone all together now, Doh! I have downloaded the lower quality versions already but was hoping to get the higher resolution versions.

If somebody could encode the original source video as an avi with the xvid codec it would solve the file size versus picture quality issue. I'm a bit of a perfectionist when it comes to picture quality. I would like to be able to plug my projector in and pretend like I was actually there.

A projector is also the best way to watch Firefly. Highly recommended.

What's a good program to get high quality AVI from my original tape? I am using the program my camera came with and it only encodes in MPG. I wouldn't mind re-doing the video myself if I could get a better program.

Thanks

Unfortunately I'm not much of an expert at encoding with xvid. I have just seen the results. You should get close to DVD quality with a file of 400mb or less.

Try the tutorial link below and see what results you get. The tutorial has all the links to all the programs you need and I am pretty sure they are all free downloads. The process might be a little longwinded so good luck.

Otherwise I'm sure there must be somebody on this site that could do it for you. If I didn't live in Australia I would suggest sending it to me and I would have a go.

I used mencoder, which comes with MPlayer. http://mplayerhq.hu

There's a Windows version in the downloads section. There's a OS X version at http://mplayerosx.sourceforge.net

Thank you for the ComicCon video. I have never in my life been to such an event. And don't know whether I will ever. Thanks for a front row seat, though I only was lucky to download the first part of the Con.
