Peter David is probably one of the more varied writer in the projects that he persues as he started out writing comic books (which he still does), then moved on to writing Star Trek novels (those who read Trek novels say he writes the best of them), and has even branched out into writing screenplays for TV (a couple episodes of Babylon 5, and several episodes of Space Cases which featured Jewel "Kaylee" Staite) and movies (Oblivion and Oblivion 2). I just happened to be kicking around and found the november archives of what seems to be his weblog. I should give you fair warning that there is a very mild spoiler for Out of Gas in the weblog so if you have yet to see the episode in question please avert your eyes. The actual message can be found at http://peterdavid.malibulist.com/gmlog/archive-112002.html but I thought I'd quote the relavent section here

Definitely the best episode so far. The multi-layered storytelling style would have been hell on anyone who can't follow non-linear stories, but it certainly propelled things along. I assume the clips were from the unseen pilot, and although it seems to have been poorly received by Fox execs, I know *I* am sure interested in seeing it now. Those clips made it actually seem like a Joss Whedon show.

Most disconcerting for me was the introduction of Kaylee. I still think of Jewel Staite as the little fifteen year old we hired for "Space Cases." Meeting her character by seeing her humping some guy in engineering and then hurriedly getting dressed afterwards just gave me the willies.

"It looks like a great adventure...That's what it is; that's what it feels like. When I saw the pilot, it was really engaging. It was exciting. It was unusual. It threw me off every now and then. I think people will be grabbed by it." - Ron Glass, on the pilot, during an interview with the Indianapolis Star

*smile* Someone needs to point Mr. David towards P2P and have him download a copy of "Serenity". The scenes from Out of Gas definitely aren't out of there. *grin*

History doesn't always repeat itself. Sometimes it merely shouts "Weren't you listening the first time?!?" and lets fly with a club.
