CHILLI

Hi. I'm kinda new here. So, here goes.

I really liked the episode. Set the scene for the show in a cool way (cooler than The Train Job... though that does work in a way as a second episode.)

One of the things that really caught me off guard in this episode was the different ways the characters acted. There wasn't a right or wrong attitude among the group.

Mal had jusitifable revenge in mind
Book was acting on behalf of his teachings
The Alliance Officer was doing his job

It was a refreshing change not to condemn any of these views.

BROWNCOAT1

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

Welcome to the board Chilli! Glad to have you w/ us. It is always a pleasure to welcome a new browncoat to the site.

I think you will find all of us in agreement w/ you on the fact that the episode "Serenity" was a far better pilot than "The Train Job". To me Fox's first mistake (one of many) in handling Firefly was to axe the original pilot and make Joss write a pilot that would fit into a one hour time slot. Joss wrote the script in one weekend. I think he did a bang up job, but "The Train Job" just did not do as a good a job of setting the stage for the series as "Serenity" would have done.

Great quote.

Firefly is extra cool, because it takes us to the grey areas. Mal is anti-establishment, almost prejudice in his beliefs. But he shows warmth in other areas. He's a 3D character. It's refreshing to see.
