So yesterday I read an article about Sean Maher, and his revealing that he is gay. The ensuing words of support and love from the rest of the ‘Firefly’ cast on Twitter reminded me of why a show that lasted only one season has become such a big part of who I am.

I just wanted to sure it with my fellow Browncoats.

Yeah. The intelligence and heart of the show grabbed me from right away, when we transitioned from Serenity Valley to the caper in progress. It hit the right notes. I might know this story and know how it's going to go, but it's in that true resonating way that hits you deep down somewhere. And being well written with a sense of humour certainly helped.

But more than that, the camaraderie of the crew in series translates off the set into the real world, and you can feel it. Before I delved into the fandom, there was something honest about their interactions that I couldn't pinpoint, until I learned how close they still are, and how involved the fans still are.

There's a lot of goodwill, and it's something I'm proud to be a part of. Even though it took me eight years to find it.
