I always found it interesting that of the four firefly dvd cases Book was on the cover. Mal of course makes sense, Zoe and Jayne are next in command and possibly screen time, but why Book? He's not even in one of the episodes (Ariel, right?). It seems to me that Inara, Simon, Kaylee or Wash would seem to make more sense. Anybody have any thoughts on this issue?

Book does seem fairly random; I would've expected Wash, or maybe River.

Maybe they just wanted to random up the 4th cover? So Zoe, Mal, and Jayne were shoo-ins, but there's a fourth that could be pretty much anyone.

I think it may indicate how important the character is/will be to Joss' view of the show...
and future events.

But of course it might have been Fox's decision, and had to do with the fact that he was an established star who might have been getting a higher rate of pay than some of the other, less experienced, actors...

Ron Glass might even have a clause in his contract about his image getting equal time with other actors on the show (some times that happens and becomes an important issue in publicity photos).

I think Book was chosen because Ron Glass is more recognizable actor than any of the others and his face might attract an older audiance. It's all about marketing.

Also, something to consider....

The customer only sees the individual covers AFTER it's been purchased.

The purpose is not to buy. It's to keep watching.

The order of the disc covers is the order of who got paid the most. Simple as that. I would have rather seen multiple characters on each cover. Oh well.
