Ok so the show isn't meant to be about history makers, but what’s going on with River would seem to pit the crew against Blue Sun, that should be history making.

Do you think that means that they would be history makers, or that they weren't actually going to go against them?

HONEY

I'm totally confused by your post. Who is "they" and "them" that you are asking about? What do you mean when you ask, "Do you think that means that they would be history makers, or that they weren't actually going to go against them?" ...huh???

They = the crew
Them = Blue Sun

Do you think that means that the crew would be history makers, or that the crew wasn't actually going to go against Blue Sun?

I don't see the serenity crew going up against Blue Sun, not in an out and out fashion at least. Not like Buffy.

Its a big universe, and I think River isn't a one of a kind person, there are others. I see River getting away permanently, but without conflict.

Oh, I don't know about the no conflict thing.

Obviously, the rag-tag crew of an unarmed transport ship isn't going to go toe-to-toe with an Evil Megacorp. Joss wouldn't stretch our credulity that far.

However, I'd always envisioned our BDHs getting linked up with the mysterious resistance group which helped Simon spring River from the Academy. In conjunction with Big events happening on other fronts, I could see our crew playing some small-looking but ultimately pivotal role in a larger arc of events. Maybe a quasi-for-profit Intel-gathering op, for example. Nothing exactly combat-like (though undoubtedly with some gun-play, since they always seem to find themselves in those situations), since that's not really their M.O. Still, you gotta figure that just picking fights in Alliance-friendly bars on U-Day, or pinching goods from under the noses of well-armed feds is gonna get old for Mal, as far as being a thorn in the Alliance's side goes...

How 'bout seeing to it that some VERY unflattering info on Blue Sun (say, provided by some Resistance operative) gets blasted out over the CORTEX, via an oh-so-smoothly planned and executed (yeh, RIGHT!) raid on a broadcasting facility. Get to the mainframe, pop in the memory tab and it's....ENRONNN...INNNN...SPAAAAACE!!

Could happen.

That's the only way I see something happening. Blue Sun seems too big to take on in any other way.

PURPLEBELLY

Purplebelly's Denouement

Blue Sun is an evil cartel that has subverted the Alliance, but is not the whole Alliance; there are people who believe in and will fight for the True Alliance. One cell of the True Alliance had become aware of Blue Sun's covert research program, sprung River and re-activated Book. Another cell was implicated in the political scandal that caused Inara to go on the lam, visiting Border worlds under cover as a peripatetic companion to co-ordinate the cells of True opposition there. It is the combined efforts of Book and Inara that will get River to a witness protection programme on Shinon where her evidence will break the illegal activities of Blue Sun; they need Serenity and her crew to avoid Blue Sun and its agents until River is safe.

Purplebelly is the only one who believes any of this

But to answer the original post, the crew are history makers in the sense that the Poor Bloody Infantry usually are, and they'll end up dead or broken on the Wheel of History.

An' I don't know whose damn column I'm in, nor where we're trekkin' nor why.
