James Brown at the T.A.M.I. Show that was held in October of 1964. On the stage that night were The Rolling Stones, Gerry & The Pacemakers, The Beach Boys, Leslie Gore, Jan & Dean, Marvin Gaye, Smoky Robinson, The Supremes, the Shindig Dancers, Chuck Berry and others. In all 47 songs performed by the biggest groups of the time excluding the Beatles. This is relevant because The T.A.M.I. Show has just been released on Amazon for only $ 11.99. PBS has been showing an abridged 1 hour version ( which is great ) but I can't wait to get the full 2 hours.

Filmed just eight months after The Beatles appeared on Ed Sullivan, Southern California guys Jan & Dean helped organize one of the first pop/rock music festivals in America. Tickets were given away for free to high school kids in Santa Monica, and they packed the Civic Auditorium with about 2,600 screaming young girls and a few guys. There were a few non-white faces in the crowd, but not many. For me the best performances came fromThe Beach Boys and The Stones.....who just strolled out onto the bare stage, plugged their equipment in themselves, and proceeded to rock the house....But the girls all screamed loudest when James Brown came out and did his thing. It's been said that he gave his best performance of his life that night, and if you se it you will know why they say that. For $ 12 you can't go wrong. For people of my age ( was 11 then ) this film is a rare gem, something very special. The girls, the clothes, the dancers...everything is just so un-jaded and innocent.

There's no place I can be since I found Serenity.

I've had it in my Netflix queue ever since I heard it would be released today, and it should have been the next disc I got, but they say it is a "Very. Long. Wait." I may end up just buying it at that price if it takes too long for them to send it to me.
