Random question for those of you who live down in Virginia/North Carolina, or for anyone who travels there often:

Is it possible (or allowed, even) to drive down Virginia Beach straight into the Outer Banks, or are the beaches cut off from each other? I ask for travel reasons because if it were possible the bf and I would be able to save a couple of hours travel time (and it would be a lot more fun ), but my mother believes there's a fence separating the two. I've never been up that far on OBX to know.

It's been a long while since I've lived & traveled in Virginia & the Outer Banks. But if memory serves, you will NOT be able to drive straight down to the Outer Banks.
Luckily I know a Browncoat who still lives in the area. Lemme see what I can do.....

Sorry, can't be done. The state line is separated by Back Bay National Wildlife Refuge. Permits to drive on the beach were granted to those who lived in NC before the refuge was established but there are no roads. You have to drive thru Chesapeake via 158 and 168 to Currituck and south to Duck and Corolla. BTW, if you're looking for a Browncoat group in Norfolk/ Va Beach see us on Facebook " Tidewater Serenity". We will have our CSTS screening at the Naro in Norfolk June 12. Dave

Yeah, Chesapeake is the way we normally go, we were just wondering if there were another way closer to the area we're headed.

Damn, in June? We're not gonna be anywhere near there till August :( But have fun with the CSTS

Thanks for the info everyone! Very helpful :)
