Hi all,

Just discovered this great series a couple of weeks ago. First post here, just wanted to share something with you that i just realised.
Simons "safeword" for River in the BDM is aktually a russian phrase. Word by word it translates somewhat like "For the chickens to laugh"

heres a wiki explanation

курам на смех (kúram násmekh)

1. Something ridiculous, silly, or completely unsatisfactory. (Literally ‘for hens to laugh’).

Это же курам на смех! — That would be enough to make a cat laugh!
Работа сделана курам на смех. — The job is done ridiculously wrong.

I think you'll find on rewatching the series, there are lots of little touches and careful details to appreciate. I wonder why they chose Russian?

I think I remember Joss saying he learned the phrase in high school Russian class or some such.

There are also many shoutouts to classic movies (scifi and other wise), Shakespeare, literature and even the Beatles.
