RIPWASH

I felt like slapping my computer when the guy said Picard was better than Mal. Seriously? You really can't compare the two. Renegade smuggler vs. Starfleet (military) Captain? Nah. Gimme Mal anyday. Fiercely loyal and a hoot to be around.

Mal: You think she'll hold together?
Zoë: She's torn up plenty, but she'll fly true.
Mal: Could be bumpy.
Zoë: Always is

Yeah, what?

When it comes to getting the crew out of impossible situations... it's easy to go up against a boatload of enemy ships if you're armed. And how about situations where life support and engines failed in the dead of space, has Enterprise ever had that happen?

Picard wouldn't last a WEEK as captain of Serenity. Hard work, real life.

ZEEK

They're from two very different worlds. I can't see Picard convincing Jayne to do anything. Same way I can't see Mal surviving Worf. Jayne would mutiny in a matter of minutes under Picard. Mal would insult Worf in no time and get himself nice and killed.

Still I think Mal has more of a chance captaining Enterprise than Picard would captaining Serenity.

JONGSSTRAW

Hey Mal's THE man, but don't under-estimate Picard. He's time-travelled many times, he's piloted many different types of ships, and he's had a couple of different wives and children under different situations; once inside The Nexus, and once in a mentally-created 40-year existence on long-dead world. And he wasn't shy about going against orders when he had to.

ANOTHERSKY

Still. Jayne. Man-ape-gone-wrong-thing? Best argument goin'. I don't care how many Klingons Picard's circumvented. He aint no match for plain uncivilized people.

Whereas I totally agree with the point that Mal would be so busy not steppin' in other people's protocol(him bein' the 'diplomatic under distress type') that he'd get himself iced real quick. Picard seems to excell at this.

Unless we wanted to do that really bad, super-corny "unconventional methods can be cool", they're not that comparable unless you take their situations into account. No, what works about these guys is they fit their respective universes as captains of their respective ships, however many those may be.

Plus, I don't think Picard would know how to react to "You're a rabbit, Jean-Luc!" LOL

Mal: You think she'll hold together?
Zoë: She's torn up plenty, but she'll fly true.
Mal: Could be bumpy.
Zoë: Always is
