Dunno if this has been brought up before, but i was watcing Deep Rising before, and i reckon Treat Williams could've been Mal's brother. he seems like a blueprint for the character - same sense of humour and honour, self-depricating, same "hero but doesn't realise it" type personality, same "any job for the money" type attitude. even the status of driving a pretty cool but beat-up ship is familiar.
