Does Kevin Smith avoid all things Joss?

I heard a rumor that Kevin Smith won't watch, or read anything from Joss. Also vice versa for Joss avoiding Smith's works.

I can't remember an interview with either one mentioning the others works. I find that strange considering both are tent poles for the uber-geekdom fanboy crowd.

Just curious if this may have some truth to it.

Interesting rivalry now you mention it.

They are both great writers and when interviewd they are both extremely funny.

However Kevin Smiths films I find a little too adolescent for my liking. I enjoyed Clerks all those years ago, but none of his other films have really grabbed me.

That said Kevin Smith is one of the best orators. Take a look at this:

Lots of people watched just a bit of Buffy without really getting into it (frequently turning into uber fans later of course) but he's a fan of Joss's comics so there doesn't seem to be any big rivalry. Plus they've both appeared on Veronica Mars.

Thanks for the link. I understand completely if he didn't dig Buffy. I have friends who think I'm strange for liking it. But Smith is usually all over any cool sci-fi show that has a lot of promise(He loves BSG!!). Well any which way he's missing out.
He should listen to Mewes.

Yeah, I don't think it's a rivalry. I think it's more like they're parallels. They like a lot of the same stuff (Star Wars, Sondheim, comics, Veronica Mars), but just do different things. One thinks that TV is a superior medium for storytelling and may never direct another movie again, while the other loves making movies and views the process of creating a tv show as "an insane fucking process." He did an entire SModcast on how he was brought in to direct the pilot for REAPER and how different it is from when he makes his movies. Before I watched BUFFY, when I heard of it's premise it reminded me of DOGMA. And then when I actually saw BUFFY and was introduced to Joss' world view, I then saw DOGMA as what BUFFY would be like if Joss actually believed in God. Where there'd be real angels, and not a pretty boy vampire. And then when REAPER came out, even though Kevin said that it reminded him of SHAUN OF THE DEAD, I saw it as "BUFFY by Kevin Smith".

And I wouldn't really describe Kevin's stuff as adolescent. If push comes to shove, I'd actually choose Kevin over Joss because I identify more with what Kevin writes about and his opinions and sense of humor than I do with Joss.

But I would like to see those streams cross. I may be too old for Make-A-Wish and reasonably healthy. But if I could have one dying wish granted, it would be to be in a room with a camera and film Joss and Kevin talking and debating and seeing if the streams do cross and all life as you know it stopping instantaneously and every molecule in your body exploding at the speed of light.

So, no there's no rivalry between them, like between Kevin and Prince or Tim Burton.
