just wanted to plug the hbo series the wire, which ended recently. this is a remarkable tv show, in my opinion the most insightful and socially relevant show ever made. it's not escapist (no slight intended, since ff is one of my favorite shows as well) entertainment like firefly, it's more a reality check for the state of american society, but it tells (told) an incredible story of police, teachers, drug dealers, politicians, and "regular" people in baltimore. i would strongly urge folks here to rent season 1 and give it a try. don't worry- it's not dry or (too) depressing, on the contrary, it's a superb drama. it's one of those things that has the potential to open your eyes in some ways to how the world works.

I completely agree. It ain’t SciFi folks, but it is damn good television. Oh… and don’t forget funny. I could listen to a “Bunk and McNulty” stupor all day.
